This is the "problem" with Dyson. We don't know how much his shot needs to improve. His small sample size numbers suggest he's a great 3 point shooter. His history suggests this is a small sample size mirage and not even Fred Vinson works that fast. We should have a better idea of where he is by the end of the year. I don't think there's anyway he's going back to the end of the bench.

Well the other crucial part is CJ's decline. I don't think it will be linear from what we've seen this year but he's clearly going down. His shot (next year) may not be what we think it is today. Add in the defensive difference (which will decline the most rapidly for CJ) and it's going to be an argument by the 23-24 season at the latest.

Its a problem for maybe 2 years down the road, but at this trajectory, It looks like you’d have to pick between Trey and Herb.

BI and Zion are here to stay. CJ will be at the end of his contract. Trey and Herb will be RFA that teams will pay top dollar most likely. We can trickle into luxury tax territory when we are selling out the SKC and making revenue off playoff games, but you cant afford all 4 and Dyson has potential as well.

And lets forget about Wemby who we inevitably will draft #1 with the Lakers pick.

Honestly, his form looks pretty damn good. I haven't watched old videos to compare, but his form is very consistent, which tends to produce more consistent results. It also doesn't look like the form that Vinson teaches, so there's a good chance Dyson had his own coach this offseason.

I seem to remember him shooting really well in his workout, so he may have just improved.

Slo, Dyson has played limited minutes in a handful of NBA games, some of which was garbage time. We all agree he looks like a good piece. Willie is going to carve out CJs minutes for him next year? Pump the mother fricking breaks.

No Naji or DG minutes. Sign me up.

Even some old school sons have lost their damn minds on this board. That probably a good thing for us though. Certainly better than the alternative.

This. Pels are being seen a solid contender for the WCF.

They’d rather Zion be a contender quickly. No quicker place than here

DWest wasn’t a wing. He was as much of an old school 4 as you can have.

I don't rate CJ like most on here and he's been kind of bad this year compared to the CJ-stans' hype. He's been a league average-type this year. He's old and getting older every day, so he's not likely to get better than what we saw last year.

If CJ could contribute anything on D I'd rate him a lot better going forward but he wasn't great at his peak and is well past that point now.

Both Peja and West were some years back and I remember West as more of a 4 with Chandler at the 5. I am struggling to recall that roster but that’s what I remember.

As some others said in comments, I don’t see Dyson pushing CJ for minutes this year, but with his length and defense, Dyson could and probably should grab more minutes elsewhere. Regarding CJ—and I’m a CJ fan—I think it’s fair to say right now that Dyson is a more natural on ball creator for others.

And still I hope we can add Brandon Miller with our lakers lottery pick. I’m clearly traumatized from walking in the wingless desert for so long.

CJ played for most of the year either sick or with a broken finger on his shooting hand. He’s our steady hand, and is closing out games. Willie isnt taking minutes away from him. Don’t be a rookie.

ETA: I say this as someone who thinks Pels talk needs all the SFP we can get.

Seems to me...the NBA is leaning more & more toward wings over smaller 1s and 2s. Lot of times, you can make a wing into a solid, big 1 or 2. Not much way to make a small 1 or 2 into anything else but a small 1 or 2. Why I like the Dyson-types and even the Herb-types although Herb has quite a way to go on the offensive end.
