I have to say that I'm surprised at the size of the Wizards blowout tonight over the Pacers.

As I said in another thread, a team with Brogdon, Sabonis, Turner, and other quality players should make the playoffs. Indiana swapped coaches and still couldn't get it done.

They really should blow everything up and start over this offseason, because they don't currently have a path to contention. I'm definitely ready for the Bledsoe/Adams for Brogdon/Sabonis trade.

The Pacers had a lot of injuries, plus had to deal with the Oladipo situation early. They get Warren back and will have a full season of Levert. That is a solid backcourt with some depth (Brogdon, Levert and Warren). McDermott is probably gone and they will look to move Turner. I don't think there is anyway they move Sabonis. Not without getting a Supertar back.

It is a solid team that has good balance and is close to a top 10 squad. I just don't see why you break it up. It needs some changes, but nothing drastic..

That's true, if they just want to "make the playoffs," which is what they had done for the prior six (I think) seasons before this one.

If they want to contend, then they need to blow it all up, because Warren + Levert isn't going to enable them to contend.

But, on the other hand, Pacers ownership had been in this situation for a while and has refused to blow it up and instead been satisfied with "making the playoffs," so maybe they don't blow it up, even though they should.

The reason you may see a slight to drastic change is simple: luxury team, small market, under-performing.

Is Levert and a healthy squad really good enough to make them a top 4 seed and a contender? I honestly don’t think so.

But I do think, gun to my head, Indiana will mostly run it back and chalk the season up to injuries. But I think ultimately in a season that team will end up being a front runner for being the next Orlando.

Indy never really tears it down for a full rebuild.

Could they move 1 of Brogdon/Levert/Sabonis...sure they could, to retool financially.

But I really don't see them giving up all or even 2 of the 3 pieces.

That's exactly what they want to do. Way back when Larry Bird was in charge flat out said he wasn't allowed to go into the tax. I can't remember the specific quotes, but basically even after the TV money came in, they've made similar comments and feel like they're operating like a Shinn era small market team even though the league economics have changed completely.

I think Brogdon + Sabonis is pie in the sky. But I can see Brogdon being gettable because he's the biggest contract and they do have decent guard/wing depth. Bledsoe and 1st(s) saves them money, and maybe if Bledsoe is coming off the bench he's useful enough to help them get to the playoffs in the East.

I love the Pacers model. Smart spending, premium on player development, solid .500+ team that makes the playoffs more often than not. No Superstars or being held captive by diva talent. It is a great way to do business and should be the model for small market teams. Fans shouldn't bash owners for not throwing cash away foolishly trying to stack teams in the hope to make a run. All teams should operate and follow a budget. I wish they would enforce a hard cap.

Rick Carlisle, after Mavs' practice in Los Angeles, on injuries heading into Game 1:

On Maxi Kleber: "It seems like he's a little better each day, so we'll hope that trend continues through tomorrow."

On JJ Redick: "It would be very unlikely that he would play in the series."

LOLOL at Redick. Thanks, Dallas, for the free 2nd-round pick.

This Miami vs Milwaukee game is like an 80s NBA game -- such hard fouls.

Great to see Jrue come up with two big plays at the end of the game to ensure the Bucks' win. I'm really pulling for him this year, since it's really the only year that I can before we need the Bucks to start losing.

Nah I’m good. I’d rather them lose every year. Give them no hope

Hardest road to the playoffs that I've seen in a while for a #3 seed but man I'm rooting for the Bucks.

I was yelling from my couch with Jrues fast break bucket with 30 seconds left. Man I miss him.

Pandemic P is back...

Lonzo S&T for Paul George once Kawhi tells LAC he doesn't want him back?

Yeah, I think it makes sense for us to root for the Mavs in this series, in the hope that the Clips decide to sell after failing.

On the other hand, if the Mavs lose, maybe we can work a sign-and-trade for Tim Hardaway Jr.

Imagine Michael Thomas demanding a trade out of town because he didn't like what he was seeing, post Drew Brees. Now imagine Saints fans actually cheering for his new team. Impossible.

JJ Redick had to publicly shite on the organization for people to come to their senses on his BS. Most Pelicans fans were supporting that guy's trade demand before that.

Gotta be the softest fanbase in sports.

Paul George trying really to take the Mr. October mantle from Reggie Jackson, but not in a positive way lol.

Gotta give credit to him. If you have Paul George, you will make the playoffs every year, so in that sense, he’d be a great trade target for a desperate team like us. He’s a really good player. But he becomes completely unrecognizable in the playoffs to the point where you’d be better off benching him once you get there lol.

Truthfully Kawhi is playing worse than Paul George.

I just looked at his contract. Starting next season: $39, $42, $45, $48. As much as Prime Paul George seems like a great fit, I wouldn't even do a straight trade of Lonzo/Adams for Pandemic P with that contract. If he's on the decline that's an albatross right when you need the most flexibility to keep Zion.
