Lot of clips out there of BI working with Vinson. His corner 3 was not hitting at a high rate. Hopefully he gets it fixed.
Haven't seen a whole lot else from practice yet.

Pretty sad watching the media ask Naji questions about every young player and their improvements over the summer and didn’t bother to ask his own improvements. That’s so cold.

Yep, team needs him to tighten up his 3 ball, he and CJ should put up to 16 or so attempts per game.

That’s because they already know MJ, I mean Naji, doesn’t need any improvements.

Per Rotoworld:
According to Pelicans.com's Jim Eichenhofer, Trey Murphy has performed well during the Pelicans' early training camp practices. Listed at 6-foot-9 last season, the second-year wing out of Virginia reportedly grew an inch during the offseason. And he's made a positive impression on his coaches and teammates during the early stages of training camp. "The biggest thing with Trey is physical," head coach Willie Green said after Thursday’s practice. "He looks better. He’s stronger, quicker. They say he grew an inch over the summer, so that’s a positive. He’s another guy who had experience from last year. Coming in this year, he somewhat knows what to expect. He’s getting to his spots quicker, getting his shots off." New Orleans' stacked starting lineup will limit Murphy's fantasy upside, but the potential for him to be a productive late-round pick is there. Keep an eye on his minutes and how he's used during the Pelicans' upcoming preseason games.

Murphy at 220 and 6'10 can compare to a poor man's John Collins in all honesty.
6'9.5" 225lbs
career 37.6% 3pt shooter
that's not an impossible comp

That’s not a bad comp at all. Collins’ wingspan is listed as 6’11 and Murphy’s at 7’1. Murph is a more pure shooter I think too.

Murphys a better shooter for sure. Collins is more athletic.

I think it may he closer than it seems. Trey is a freak athlete, too. Just less of a physical body than Collins

Honestly too much hype for me.
Lets see in season. The Pels want to be a PO team this season.

while i do agree that BI needs to improve on his 3 point shooting this year, i don't expect him to be sitting in the corner too often. That's Herb's job.
BI shot 40% from the corner last year, and only took 1 of those shots every 2 games.
BI went from 43% the previous year on catch and shoot 3's to 36% this past year. Just get that back to 40%, and limit the pull up 3's to a minimum, which he pretty much does.
I got no problem with BI living from the mid range like KD, DeRozan and Butler, but he needs to be legit threat from 3 when Zion/CJ kick it out to him and he's open.

i agree. Trey has some sneaky athleticism.
the one positive with all of this and Trey getting bigger, is Trey was already a guy that wanted to be good defensively, and has good instincts. Him adding weight is more important than growing an inch. If he can hold his own against the 4's of the league, and possibly backup 5's or really any 5 that isn't huge like Jokic/Embiid/JV/Nurkic/Adams, then he's going to be special for us. I know guys like Nurkic/Adams aren't offensive guys, but they are big strong dudes that will grab every offensive rebound if the guy guarding them is too small.
Where your strength is in your weight makes a big difference.
Take 240lb Porzingis and 210lb Jrue for example. You would think Porzingis can handle bigger guys better, but Jrue's lower body strength is what makes him capable of keeping pussies like AD out of the paint when trying to back Jrue down. It's more important to keep guys as far away from the basket as possible as opposed to letting them body you and then trying to use your length to block/alter shots at the rim. AD taking fadeaway mid range jumpers over Jrue is a much better defensive stand than him taking baby hook shots from just outside the restricted area over anyone.
I think Trey has enough of that lower body strength with his legnth to defend most big guys.

Trey looked good enough as a secondary perimeter defender. But if you use him in that role someone (BI or Zion) has to man the middle.
I will also say BI looked decent as a secondary defender too, although that was more playing bigger than playing smaller. I'm not sure he could keep up with fast guards.

I’m going to say it. Zion will have Daymond like impact on defense.

a fast guard running pick/roll with an agile big could be disaster, especially at the end of games

Not really. We have unreal versatility for closing lineups. You have the option of using Herb on the guard or if the team has a top tier wing, then let Jose pester the shite out of that guard.
BI’s defensive assignments will vary from game to game. We aren’t going to stick 6’9” BI on a Ja Morant type. Herb and Jose were preternatural at avoiding screens as rookies too. Not so easy to shake them or get the switch you want with our curent team.

would be a miracle. draymond is pretty sharp. he's not some great physical specimen. he's "just" high bbIq.
I see him being pushed around in a way zion won't be.

I don't think there's any chance Zion can be what Draymond is on defense, but let's let you be correct and me wrong on this one!
