Will Guillory is now leaving for Houston to cover the Rockets full time, with occasional Pels pieces

Now the Times Pic, ESPN, and The Athletic will not have a single dedicated Pels reporter.

When Zion came I believe we had 4 between those 3. Not good

I don't think he is a full time reporter for any major publication

He has a substack

I’m not sure more than like 12 people would have read any of it anyway

Complete apathy.

Nobody cares about the Pels, so why should we?

This team really needs to just fold or get sold. We are an embarrassment to the entire NBA

Not a huge loss. We don't need people posting "Can Confirm" after Shams or one of the national guys breaks Pelicans news they should have been breaking. They're all worthless

He must be happy to at least cover a good team even if the city is just as shitty.

Idk what they would write about. All we've done all off-season is draft a late second rounder and re-sign an end of the bench player to a stupid contract.

Vegas over / under is like 26.5 wins. Not much for media to cover.

I understand ESPN and The Athletic not having a reporter who solely covers the Pelicans, but the local paper not having one is unfathomably insane.

“Beat” writing is outdated, and within the NBA, not really necessary. In the case of the Pelicans, they blame it on the team being uninteresting, but there was plenty of franchise dysfunction that could have been reported on. They picked on Zion when it was convenient & newsworthy, but hardly anything else.

Furthermore, everyone that covers and has covered the Pelicans are boring. Twitter is the new sports page, and they just do a terrible job of creating a brand & engagement. Is it in the job description? Probably not. Does it matter to the audience that you’re trying to get to click on your boring article ? Yeah, probably.

Not for local outlets it isn't.

No one pays to read Nola.com articles and the print editionTimes Picayune has been scaled back tremendously. There is no need for a traditional beat writer.

That isn’t to say other forms of media & reporting aren’t integral or more interesting. Because it has made “beat writing” obsolete.
