I remember how upset I was when they got rid of the little free game programs. I have so many old ones boxed up. Significant games too.

They have the worst ownership in the league

Zero pulse as to what is going on

Inherited a sports team with zero interest & know-how. Not sure what people expect

In hindsight They should have ridden the saints coat tails after the rebrand instead of trying so hard to brand themselves separately .

In hindsight, and I’ve said this a bunch of times. They should have rebranded to the VooDoo. They could have been the opposite of the ‘Saints’ and been the little brother into the darker side of things. Create their own true identity.

The name just fits New Orleans like nothing else and would have been a merchandise gold mine and one of the coolest names in the league.

Pelicans are just a big goofy bird and a name befitting of a minor league baseball or soccer team. Horrible decision by the Bensons.

How, when it's taken from a very recent pro team in New Orleans that played in the same arena. A recycled name from the same ownership group makes it feel even more like a leftover.

Not gonna say I would have actually personally liked it, but for the sheer frickery and trollish energy it would have provided seeing the rest of the country grapple with it, I would have loved the supposed “leaked” list of five names to be true and Benson decided to go with the New Orleans Rougarous

Cauchemar would have also been fun from a frick-with-everyone perspective. While also having intrinsic Louisiana qualities

Honestly, no one outside of New Orleans would even remember or probably did not know about it.

But the Pelicans name sure has perfectky fit the brand of basketball they’ve played since the rebrand lol.

Jazz, Lakers, Knicks, Clippers, Nets etc. Scary sounding nickname doesn't matter.

It doesn’t have to instill fear, but it’s just a goofy rebrand that’s at the bottom of the league. If they would have done it right, VooDoo would have been up there in merch sales

Arena’s don’t fill up if the team sucks except in major markets where there are just a ton of ppl.

rochester and syracuse did ok and each won a 'ship.
their markets are now much bigger than new orleans.
snow travel issues trumped local support once the nba decided to expand out of northeast. rochester had nine inches of snow a few days ago.

Ben Hales has this job because his father is a very well connected NO socialite, former Rex, etc. and he has no idea what he is doing clearly. Add him to the pile Pelicans front office staff with no business at their current position. The entire organization is a dumpster fire all the way down to these guys and it’s quite obvious to even the less-than-casual observer.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the Voodoo name still in use in whatever was the Arena Football League at the time of the Pelicans rebrand?

If so, maybe Benson didn't want to pay up for something he had already sold.

Also not sure what they can do about the TV deal. Leagues need to realize the RSN model is dead and just start offering streams, either directly to the consumer or via streams they provide themselves to cable/IPTV companies. Screw the local blackout B.S.

This team needs to leave NOLA. Go back to a real nba city with real nba ownership.

The front office is trash and they won’t fire themselves. Move this team and get this stink off

It sounds to me like Ben Hales knows how to make a lot of excuses and take very little responsibility. The pels and saints gameday atmosphere have both gone down in the past couple years. He overseees both.

They’re doing a lot of finger pointing, and given the state of the franchise it’s not surprising at all. No accountability whatsoever.

TRUEE! Everything BESIDES the iconic King Cake Baby. If they get rid of KCB like they did with nightmare Pierre then just move this team to Seattle

Right, and Benson already owned the rights to Pelicans. The name is fine and he didn't need to spend a dime securing another name.

I mean. People actually care about in game entertainment besides the game?

Kids and wives certainly care, especially since all this entertainment we are talking about happens when the game is not being played.

The team has been garbage before, maybe not the same lofty level of garbage it is right now, but my wife still loved going for the whole package. Now she doesn't want to go this year after we have attended a couple of games. Nothing to keep her adhd satisfied, and the team is garbage. It's downright depressing at this point. I feel like we are being slapped in the face left and right for being a pels fan this year, as long time season ticket holders. Between the ridiculous make you feel stupid if you belive him Griff down to the anime clothes wearing giggling star, it really feels like I'm being pushed out as a fan. My family not wanting to go because they cut out everything from the arena, really doesn't fkn help.

I guess I'll keep coming back for more though because I love the abuse.

We have some of the best musicians in the world in New Orleans. Why can’t they hire a DJ/Keyboard player like the Hawks have with Sir Foster?

That would cost the Pelicans money and I doubt Dennis would allow any spend with the take at the gate being down. The Pelicans are all about the money and only the money. Time for some new state subsidies I am sure.
