Nothing about the fluffy one though, just mostly marketing

Gameday and Fan Experiences
The Pelicans sent a contingent to the Disney Institute for a workshop to get a better grasp on how to take a new approach to their gameday experiences. The music in the Smoothie King Center has gotten a remix in recent years but even the Pelicans want to push the boundaries further. Hales told me, “The NBA actually has rules about what music you can play (in certain situations). We have been fighting the fight. We’ve gotten them to budge a little bit, still trying to incorporate some things that are not the usual things you would hear or see. It’s still meeting some resistance but you know if we were given free rein to play what we want to when we want to it would be a very different experience so I’m glad we are making progress.”

Hales explained on the broadcasting issues, “nobody's more frustrated than we are. We are in constant communication with Ballys about what's going on, and what the expectation is...They are frustrated. It's not what they want either. We haven't had a history of that being an issue. For some reason, this year, it is an issue. And that's got to be better.”

The Pelicans will be partnering with a rotating roster of local bars to do activations with corporate and alcoholic partners.
As Hales pointed out, “step one is you got to make sure that just as a general rule, when our games are on: Bars, put it on TV! Nothing makes us crazier than walking into a restaurant or bar and there's another NBA game. That just can't happen. So that's an education issue. That's a networking thing, where we've really got to make sure that that's just the default.”

Everything about this franchise is just bad

Yep, it’s second rate and it’s gotten worse with Griff at the helm.
Got a front office that sucks and bunch of players that don’t care.
And we have a desperate little brother mentality that permeates throughout the entire franchise and even the media that covers it.
And it’s not going to get better until we axe the entire front office tbh.

So much fingerpointing there to from "The League wouldn't let us do this" to government restrictions to bars not playing games and to Ballys. Is it an organizational issue to point fingers everywhere else but the product on the court and the team's own negligence communicating and connecting with fans? These folks have a golden goose in the Saints where they have very little they need to ever do to market locally so they obviously have a problem with "the other child." And rather than some inward reflection to accept any responsibility, it's someone else's fault!
"I think our team is fantastic at keeping their head down and doing their work." They're brand managers, not bean counters. (No offense meant, bean counters!). It's ridiculous that the VP of brand management thinks this is supposed to be a compliment.

Getting rid of the dance team is my favorite part

This was precisely my point in other threads relating to how the franchise is run as it relates to handling the players .
In hindsight They should have ridden the saints coat tails after the rebrand instead of trying so hard to brand themselves separately .
Passed up a Golden opportunity to use black and gold colors and branding that the city and region is already attached to .
The biggest problem is no consistent in court success . All of the other problems are solved with Ws. That is the same story in every small market. Arena’s don’t fill up if the team sucks except in major markets where there are just a ton of ppl.

Step 1: Put a team on the court that doesn’t suck arse.
Step 2: King cake baby.
Seriously this isn’t hard.

Why did they have to go to a Disney Workshop? Just look at what you used to do.

I think the in-game entertainment and promotions were good before Griff. I blame him.
George Shinn was a cheapo but the nonbasketball entertainment was on point, with Hugo doing fun skits, the Honeybees, used-to-bees, guys night out tickets, etc.
A lot of that continued after the pelicans rebrand. But then at some point they replaced the person who did Pierre and the mascot stopped being fun. Then take away the dance team and all the fun performances and it's crap now. There wasn't even Pierre the past 2 home games. I miss even the most basic things like him waving the big flag at center court.
And the line to enter SKC when you have a bag is ridiculous compared to the non-bag line. Not a personal problem for me, but it seems like everything about the game day experience has fallen off a cliff since Griff, leaving aside basketball which is a whole diff conversation.

Well, tbf they have had to deal with covid regulations for over a year (like they stated) that has hampered alot.

I didn’t think Gale would run the franchise into the ground

Yeah, this is the cheapest feeling year I've ever experienced and I've been a full season ticket holder for over a decade. No Pierre anymore, no dance team, even the arena announcer sounds bored. It feels like an eternity since the time when you saw Pierre and the dance team going around the arena throwing and shooting T-shirts in the second half, and I never realized how much better than nothing that crap is.
It all starts with winning though. The fans will show up if they win, and they have in the short bursts when they won.

It’s awful. As a person who usually has a young kid in tow seeing Pierre up close was legit the highlight of my kid’s night at the arena. There is nothing at the moment. When we didn’t see Pierre the other night he was legit upset.
And considering attendance at the moment Pierre could come have a one on one chat with pretty much every kid in the arena.
Going to Disney man this franchise. Throw crap to the lower bowl and shoot crap to the upper bowl. Get some Peja heads (and maybe a player that can make a three).
They just aren’t trying.

Peja on a stick was awesome. I bugged the shite out of my reps to get Niko on a stick then we moved him.

TV contract with Sinclair is killing the fan support (other than the awful team)
Posted on 11/8/21 at 9:27 pm to kneenola
I mean. People actually care about in game entertainment besides the game?
