They stuck there because they aren't paying their backup more than their starter. I am curious to see what this free agency does to team chemistry. What are Klay, Draymond, Curry, Iggy gonna be thinking when Barnes is making more than them? That's gonna happen all over the league.
We are fine with this as long as we don't give someone more money than AD. Jrue will be fine playing one year making less than or equal to his backup knowing he is in a contract year. Everyone else can buzz off.

Every great team already has an AD type. They also usually have good ownership, an accomplished coach, and multiple other quality players on their roster.

Nets also working hard on Kent Bazemore—another former Atkinson connection, per source. But Rockets’ presentation late Thursday was strong.

at some point the excuses for Dell (injuries, ownership, market...etc) need to stop.
I think the situation we're in is an indictment of Demps. Making good current choices gives me hope going forward, but he completely screwed the pooch thinking this roster was built for Gentry.

But I also think it is impossible for him or any GM to dig out of this hole because of the ownership. Pick whoever you think the best GM in the world is and put them in Dell's spot today and he isn't accomplishing anything either.
Pure speculation on your part. I understand that you have an emotional connection to our front office, but to state definitively that no GM could accomplish anything in this environment despite being gifted AD on what will be a bargain basement contract is ridiculous.
And if Dell is so overwhelmed by the circumstances of ownership then he should resign and we give someone else a try.

It is silly to blame Benson for Demps' failures. He has had 6 years and not been able to do anything. His ideals on a player seem to clash with the coach's and he does not seem to budge. He did it with Monty as well. I get the feeling he thinks he knows more than the coaches about what kind of player the coach needs.

You understand nothing about me. I got on this FO for bad moves before anybody. I was the champion of the "Do not match Gordon" movement- or don't you remember?
Again, I don't think Dell has done well. But even if he wanted to go the slow route we all want, he simply wouldn't be allowed. So maybe he is bad and they are bad. Maybe he is average and they are bad, or maybe he has learned from his mistakes and can be good but they are bad. That I honestly don't know
But I also know it doesn't matter. The options they will give any GM are so limited and run so counter to what this franchise should do that they are fricked regardless

I think we forget that Demps and his trade maneuvering got us out of hell before the transition to the Pels...I also think that because of the transition and the push of ownership to win now without any sort of understanding of basketball economics altered his original plan...
That being said he's made some bonehead moves to meet that mandate i.e. the Evans deal and matching Gordon (yes I know that was pre-Benson)
I also think this is a "what have you done for me lately" league...if this was last offseason I fully believe we would have gotten a Bazemore or Batum because we were trending upward...one season can make all the difference - McNamara is right...winning and ownership stability (bad press is bad press - no matter how true or false) matters.

Part of the reason I wanted JVG was because I assumed that he'd tell ownership to GTFO. I don't think we can assume most GMs would have the credibility to say no to their owners. Demps has taken multiple wrong turns trying to Win Now. But we have seen a definite course correction with the draft, hiring a senior advisor, and so far not giving out a crazy contract in an offseason where it will be hard not to. I'm not saying it's time to Trust in Demps again, but if you were going to draw up a plan to follow on how he could earn back that trust, it'd look like what we've seen recently.

Well looks like Bazemore isn't even considering us. Imagine its the same situation as Lin you can't pay Bazemore as much as AD when he isn't even half the player he is.

We lost over 350 games to injury last season.
I've already gone over how it wasn't that far off from how many missed games we had the year before.
We shut people down early, and let that total go up b/c of injuries to D-Leaguers and end of bench guys.
When you compare last year and the year before looking at AD/Jrue/Ryno/EG/Reke, it wasn't that big of a difference. There was more time missed between those 5 two years ago before the month of February than their was this past year.
We have to replace 33ppg between Ryno and EG. I don't expect Buddy to be that good yet, and we would be relying on a FA to fill Ryno's spot, and this is all to be a fringe playoff team at best

JVG and Cal were both wanting to come (don't believe reports to the contrary) but they both weren't even given a real chance because of the power they wanted

Lin would have been a solid get. Not sure why "Demps" didn't go up to 12 a year.
Posted on 7/1/16 at 10:29 am to PortCityTiger24
He wouldn't start in Nola
He probably could've gone up a bit but there's no use getting into a biding war over an average player
And I like Lin fwiw

Back up PG is secondary to starting SF

If Jrue gets injured again this season, we are really screwed. We'd be going into the following season needed a new starting PG, likely an upgrade at SF (again), and likely an upgrade at C.

I agree. Basically you could swap him for Evans for an extra $2M this year. Still room to bargain shop, which they seem to be doing anyway.
I would guess they either still want to keep Evans around or don't have a dumping ground for him.

The 17 draft is very deep at PG and so is FA
I hope cheick can develop over the next year or so because I think he'd be perfect

Yea, backup PG is important when your starting PG has played 55% of games in 3 seasons
