Also, regarding Bledsoe, the last time a non Super Star PG was traded for more than 1 pick was Dragic to Miami where they got what were essentially 2 late 1sts. I don't see why they'd expect much more in this market.
I'm with you.
Two things here:
- If they don't trade Bledsoe before the season, he's one injury away from completely tanking his market. Considering his history, that seems an awful risk vs. reward. Risking that he'll stay healthy for the reward that teams will get more desperate in-season.
- The Pels are a Western Conference fringe playoff team. In terms of first round picks that could actually land in the lottery, we are as good a bet as any team that would be looking to land Bledsoe. Not only will playoff competition be stiff, there is legit question marks surrounding the viability of Cousins/Davis. Trading Bledsoe to a 40 win Eastern Conference team means that pick will almost assuredly land in the late teens or later.

I'd be interested to know if Boston gets a better offer than Ajinca, Qpon, and a top 5 protected pick for Crowder
Who cares if they get a better offer? They will certainly get a better offer for their situation because they need cap room. Trading Crowder is not their only option. They can trade one of Smart, Bradley, and Crowder. Crowder is cost controlled for 3 years. Smart and Bradley will need to be paid next year on top of IT's new contract. If they had kept #1 and drafted Fultz it would be a different story, but if all they are gettign is an expected mid to late 1st for Crowder (assuming we ship anjica off somewhere else), why would they make that trade if they can get a 1st for Smart who they know they will not re-sign?
Positionally speaking Crowder is the one to trade, but Danny really values his contract and I would imagine more so with luxury tax territory looming. If he believes that Brown/Tatum can replace him for cheaper, then Crowder is the one to trade. However, I think Danny wants one more year of Crowder to let the young guys grow before trading him.

Crowder would be awesome as discussed in this thread...However, his name doesn't begin with an L, S or B...

i've seen that tossed around a good bit on here. whats the problem with having 4 guys all 6'6" or taller who offer a mix of offense and switching defense 1-4? arent those the types of guys everyone in the league wants and that you need to throw at LeBron/Warriors?
i get the cap issue. but to me, that means moving one of the guards- Bradley, Smart, or Rozier. Bradley/Smart may be better than Brown/Tatum, but that might not be true for Brown as soon as this season and the young guys will be a hell of a lot cheaper for the next 3-4 years

This has been my thinking all along. I've already made it known I wasn't able to follow as much this past season, but Ajinca is serivicable at best, Pondexter is coming off injury, Asik is, well Asik. It just seems like any player that is dispensible for the Pelicans is undesirable to other franchises.

The most logical thing to do was probably draft Fultz and move on from IT. They didn't. One of Smart/Bradley are necessary to cover up for IT on defense. I think they keep Bradley.
As for Crowder, if they hope to develop Brown and Tatum while playing Hayward, they will need minutes at some point. As I said, I think they will hold on to crowder this season and trade him next year when they are more comfortable with Brown and Tatum stepping up. The one reason they may trade him would be that he made some noise when the whol courting Hayward stuff started. Considering his reduced salary and now playing second fiddle to Hayward with Brown/Tatum waiting in the wings, he could become a malcontent.

Celtics looking at Marc Gasol?
LINK
Interesting. And not that we hadn't already counted the Grizz out of the playoffs, but that would push them out for sure.
quote:
Chris Mannix of The Vertical reported two league executives identified Gasol as a potential trade target, and Mannix speculated that Boston could acquire him in exchange for a "ready-made rebuilding package of players and picks."
The Celtics could use one more frontcourt asset to round out a projected lineup that features Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Al Horford and Hayward. Jae Crowder, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and 2017 first-round pick Jayson Tatum are penciled in as the key reserves.

Supposedly Crowder is on the trade block and ATL is interested. I cannot see Ainge hoarding his assets during PG discussions, but giving up his precious for a 32 yr old Gasol. Maybe Memphis is juts ready for a rebuild and dumps him for whatever, but they arent going to win a trade with Ainge.
ETA - Also with Gasol, they'd have $83M in Gasol, Horford, Hayward before having to sign IT. After re-signing IT, Brown and Tatum would put them in the tax.

Maybe I woke up feeling optimistic.
I think #Pelicans GM Dell Demps is gonna pull off a trade to solidify team core that impresses everyone.

Maybe Memphis is just seeing what Gasol is worth. With the shift of stars West they may see the writing on the wall for Grit N' Grind and think it's close to time to hit the reset button.

I definitely think the smoke is coming from Memphis. Timing makes it seem like it is the Celtics coming up with it, but I think Memphis is throwing up the bat signal to try and get offers to gauge value w/o seeking offers. Will have to make a decision soon on JaMychael GReen too.

Interesting change in the new CBA that I hadn't seen.
That means if Asik is going to be the difference between tax or no tax then something needs to happen with him this summer probably. If they aren't ready to do anything with Asik it could also mean not bringing back Cunningham. If you add most of the MLE and Frank Jackson you're right under the tax with everyone else but Cunningham returning.
I also have always assumed Toupane would get cut and put on a 2 Way contract if they didn't trade him and wanted to keep him.

A thing to remember re: lux tax going forward:
Team can't dodge it at the end any more. Calc is on ACTUAL paid salaries during season.

Clips are in negotiations with Milos Teodosic on a 3-yr/$24m deal

It really makes me wonder wtf we are actually doing. Not a lot of smoke with us, although obviously our options are limited.
Of course, almost every team is being pretty cautious this year.

I just want them to do something but then I don't want them to do anything stupid so I really don't want them to do anything.

C.J. Miles would be great off the bench for us

This really had my interest over the weekend and earlier in the week. Now it just annoys me. Dragging.
