I agree that it is a bailout if no pick is involved but I don’t see how the trade happens without a 1st. What’s Phoenix’s motivation to do this trade without a pick?
That's what I am trying to figure out as well. It makes no sense.

Maybe Chriss and Knight were lockerroom cancers they didn’t want around their young cornerstones. Also, Ryno is a very high character guy to have around your young players as well. Most importantly, if you play Ryno about 20 minutes a game, you probably guarantee yourself another top 3 pick.

Here's an article with all of the details LINK

They got Ariza and now Ryno and will pursue a starting PG. They want to try to win. If they had just been patient they could have made this deal and gotten a 1st from Houston.

That’s a solid dose of irrational hope there.

The Suns just don’t want to be the worst team in the West, they aren’t even close to making the playoffs.

I get that they feel they’re done with tanking, but they blew this trade by not squeezing a 1st out of Houston.

Lose Knight and his contract, move on from Chriss, save some money (Anderson took a pay cut to make the deal happen), get a young guy many were high on who fell in the draft, get Anderson.

They aren't trying to win now, thinking Anderson signals that is odd to me. Worst thing they could do is rush to get a "pg" i hate Kemba on this team and wouldn't want to pay the price to get McCollum from Portland

It's about developing their young 3 (21, 21, 20) into functioning pros. Ariza is no nonsense and great locker room vet. Anderson is limited, but what he does well will help make things easier on offense for Booker, Jackson, and Ayton. They can be looking for/developing their next PF who can play when they do get serious about winning

Also not sure how many more picks/young guys Phoenix needs- they have their triforce plus they now have 3 other rookies from this draft (Bridges, Okobo, Melton) and Bender is still only 20.

I like this for Phoenix, but I suspect McDonough or Sarver will frick it up because that's what they do. I like it for Houston too. Doubt Knight or Chriss do much, but they know Anderson can't help them and D'Antoni has a way of maximizing flawed players

People are high on Melton and Suns need a pg of the future

Has the QP trade exemption expired yet? Wasn’t it 4 today?

Normally, yes, the exception would expire exactly at one year after the deal was/is consummated. However, the exception cannot expire on a weekend or holiday. So, technically, we have until tomorrow night to make a deal. Not sure if we will do anything but it’s still possible.

I sure hope so, seems like a wasted opportunity of we don't. I kinda like the Meeks idea that was floated, another shooter is never a bad thing

Pels sign Ty Wallace to an offer sheet per Shams.

Was that the Clippers 2way contract last season that played well enough that people were surprised they didn’t convert him to a regular contract?

Yes, but they still have the option of matching. It’s a 2 year minimum partially guaranteed.

They also have 16 on their roster I think.

Right, but they have 15 guaranteed contracts, and Pat Beverly. I think it’s unlikely that the Clippers match. They have Evans that they’ll probably cut to fit in Beverly. They don’t really have many other good “cut” candidates.

Wallace did look really good last season though.

Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania
Sources: Along with offer sheet on Tyrone Wallace, New Orleans is signing four-year NBA guard Darius Morris to a partially guaranteed two-year deal.

Pels are gonna need to replace the rims and backboards in their training facility after the first day of camp, due to all the historically bad outside shooters the Pels have signed this offseason. Elfrid, Randle, Wallace, Morris, etc.

i know nothing at all about morris or wallace. i know payton cant shoot and used to have ridiculous hair. i know frank jackson looks great in a suit

with regard to players i do know about, according to sauces on twitter goran dragic is available for trade. TBW discusses it here:

LINK

a trade that miami likes with the pels seems unlikely, but if they'll take a 1st plus anything besides mirotic i'm on board. hill/moore would have to be involved to make the money work
