I feel like many are hyped about FJ (at least I am), who just turned 20, and down on Diallo who is turning 22 in September. Sure the SL hasn't been kind to Cheick, but he's still very young, and came to the organization incredibly raw. I still have faith in the Diallo experiment.

Diallo gives you production you can get for near minimum money. If he ever turns a corner it probably will take 2-3 more years. That timeline doesn’t fit maximizing our ability to keep AD. I’m not saying I’m ready to bet on Hood, but a gamble on an RFA wing is a lot more likely to payoff in ADs timeline than betting on Diallo becoming something.

If Diallo becomes a useable trade chip that would be good

Yeah dell will sell Diallo down river first chance he gets

You can get Hood without sending out Diallo. It could be this easy...
Cavs sign and trade Hood to Pels. Deal is say 3/26 with the third year non guaranteed.
Cavs get Darius Miller and a 6 million dollar TPE to use down the line.
Team 3 gets Okafor and a 2nd rounder/cash for their troubles.
There are many ways to do this trade if Cleveland would prefer a TPE to Hood, which they might if he will just sign the QO and leave in a year anyway

Is the market for Hood really around 3/26 mil?

Michael,
Do you see him a good fit on the Pel's?
His defence is horrible, so I have been told.

I would love that and to somehow convince the Clips to take Ajinca and a future 2nd for one of Beverley or Teodosic and then maybe sign Devin Harris to min
Beverley / Payton / Harris / Jackson
Holiday / Moore / Clark
Hill / Hood / vet min wing (Brewer please)
Randle / Mirotic / Diallo
Davis / vet min center (Monroe)
Problem is you don’t really have a lot of high expirings to make a trade at the deadline so you are limiting yourself somewhat.

It would depend on the money and role. If you are basically sliding him into the Miller slot, he is a great fit. If his role is to come off the bench and gun, then you can sit him if he isn't hitting and he is giving up more points than he is adding
Role players are almost never good or bad in a vacuum. They succeed in particular roles and they fail in others. If you need Hood to be good to win a game, you will lose more games than you win. If you are going to win a good amount of games regardless and you have Hood to put you over the top in those 8 games he is red hot, then he is a good guy to add to your team.

Thanks.
Fair enough.
Rather keep the cap space next season for Barnes or Walker.

Miller>hood if I'm buying for red hot nights

I'd rather Miller as well.
I'd take Hood on a 1 year deal and that's it.

Any chance he would sign for the QPon exception if Cleveland just looking for a 2nd rounder and a TPE? I guess that would be a 2 year/$8 million deal or a 3 year/$12.3 million (somewhere in that ballpark).

Hood isn’t a bad player. Was actually solid in Utah. 17 PPG there, 39% from three before the trade.
He’s a hell of a lot better than what we have currently at the wing.

He actually wants to come here too. He keeps liking random social media posts saying he should go to the Pels.

I don't have a problem with Hood especially if he's a bench guy. Like MM said, if he replaces Miller great I am totally in. But at what cost? Can we afford to pay a back-up SG/SF $8-9 mil/yr? And how does is hamper our ability to sign/trade for someone significantly better to start in front of Hood? Does is impede our ability to resign a guy we really want? Aka Niko or Randle?
Finally is it worth going after Hood when guys like Oubre & Nwaba could have about the same impact at potentially a fraction of the cost of Hood?

If I was going to spend $7-9 mil on Hood, I’d rather go up to say $11-13 mil (no idea what it’ll take to get done) and take a chance on a guy with some upside in Jabari Parker.
MIL needs to clear some space if they want to keep Middleton and Bledsoe.

I’d love to have Oubre, especially at his salary. But I wouldn’t be mad at them signing Hood. I don’t think he will cost 9+ mil, though.

To sign for multiple years (which needs to happen for a sign and trade to be possible), I think you need to give Hill at least 7-9 per. Otherwise, he would just sign his QO for 3.5 and enter FA next year, where there will be over twice the money there was this summer. There would be no reason for him to bypass that, just to get 4 or 5 mil this season.
And to the question of "Is a backup worth that?" -- Bad question, because not all backups are created equal. Some backups play 30 minutes, some play 8 minutes. I would say that, in order to be "worth" that contract, a guy would have to play at least 24 minutes and be 15-20% better than replacement level in that role.
I think some people here have recency bias and are simply judging Hood on his stint with the Cavs, and in particular, the game he didn't go into the game. I also want to say that he has played with two teams in his career that were slow pace for the most part and Hood is obviously the type of guy that would flourish far more in an uptempo attack that moves the ball. I think Finch's system would absolutely be amazing for him offensively. Skill wise, he is 4, maybe 5 times the player Miller is. Just skill.
It would come down to his maturity level, his professionalism, and his willingness to work on the defensive end. But with his upside, you aint getting him for 4 or 5 mil. I think the Pels see a guy who could take off in their system and reach heights he never has before, and they'd have to pay a bit to find out if thats true
