LAC deals Rivers to the Wizards for Gortat. Gives a little more credence to the Jordan to the Mavs talk.

Does that open up more of a possibility of Boogie to Wizards with Wall?

Probably would have to be a sign and trade... the cap gurus may have more information

I would think this would portend a Beal trade more than Porter.

rivers and Gortat both expire, WAS saves a bit of luxury tax.
I would think that unless something weird happens that WAS would try to sign Noel or Howard on the cheap

however Walls contract expands like an exploding galaxy next season...

I posted this in the MSB thread, but something like:

Pels:
Porter
Satoransky

Wizards:
Cousins

Third team:
Ajinca
2nd rd pick

It’s a little more difficult than a typical sign and trade because Cousins only counts for ~18 mil of outgoing salary from the Pels perspective, which means the Pels can only receive about 22 mil back in a sign and trade that sends him out. He still counts for whatever he signs for from the Wizards perspective though. Pels would still need to dump another contract in order to get below the tax though (Hill or Moore most likely).

Yea I'm really pulling for a 3-way with the Wiz & Hawks

Pels send out: Boogie, Solo, Ajinca, 1st
Pels receive: Porter, Satoransky, Dedmon

Wiz sends out: Porter, Satornasky, Mahinmi, 1st
Wiz receives: Boogie, Bazemore

Hawks send out: Dedmon, Bazemore
Hawks receive: 2 1sts, Mahinmi, Solo, Ajinca (bought out)

Hawks have to eat an extra $5 mil in salary ($10 before buying out Ajinca) but send out 2 guys that aren't a part of their future and get 2 1sts. Boogie's contract has to be about $28 mil and the Wiz get Baze to fill in for Porter along with dumping a terrible contract in Mahinmi (maybe they give more picks to ATL). Pels fill almost every need (SF, C, & combo guard) while getting players that fit excellent on this roster.

I honestly cannot see why anyone would say no.

Some players agree to do it - to make trade easier. to help his new team/to depart from his former team.
like Alan Crabbe a year ago.

but agree - a player is kosing $$$

Yeah, trades have been derailed by trade kickers before, but they also do get waived. They are as much about control and being a pseudo trade veto as they are about the money.

Porter went to college in DC so maybe he has no desire to leave, but I have to think he’d be intrigued by playing on a team where he was maybe the 3rd best defender instead of the being only one known for defending.

I also like the trade Deion came up with. It does seem to get everyone what they want...assuming the Wiz are ready to take on the Boogie uncertainty and the Pels aren’t.

Been preaching this move for quite some time. Porter is a super role player on an oversized contract, but he has upside if he can become more assertive/aggressive. He spaces like crazy, doesn't need the ball, makes his teammates better, and would excel in our offense while being able to defend wings.

Sato let's us run a jumbo smallball lineup and allowing us to rest Rondo while still letting us play within our offense or a 3 guard lineup that is not a nightmare on defense.

Thoughts on the Wiz/Clips deal also being a precursor to a Boogie Cousins to DC sign-and-trade for Otto Porter and Tomas Satoransky?

I think I'm officially in the "First option should be to pursue S&Ts for Boogie" camp.

I think I'm ready to move on if we can get value in return.

In my mind, the only teams Boogie would agree to in a S&T is WAS, MIL, LAL, or DAL.

If we could get Porter, Middleton, or some combo of Ingram/Kuzma/Randle, count me in. Barnes? Count me out. FWIW Barnes' advanced stats put him around the value of a replacement level player

I'd rank S&T with WAS for Porter as option #1 on the want list, S&T for Middleton as #2, resign Boogie as #3, S&T with LAL at #4, and S&T with DAL as #5 (I might let him walk for nothing if he wants to go to Dallas)

#2 and #3 could be swapped depending on logistics of the trade. Which doesn't fit as nicely at a trade with Washington

Gortat was a big locker room problem for them. This move could just be about getting him out of the door. Also if I'm the Wizards I'd look at grabbing D12 or maybe even Nerlens Noel on the cheap before trading for Boogie.
