SLAM Magazine @SLAMonline The Mavs believe they have a “strong chance to land DeMarcus Cousins in free agency," per @MikeAScotto

The Mavericks believe they have a strong chance of signing DeMarcus Cousins in free agency, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic. Cousins, coming off a season-ending Achilles tendon injury, will be an unrestricted free agent next month. While the Mavericks’ interest in Cousins has previously been reported, Scotto’s story suggests the Mavericks are ready to make him a hefty offer to lure him away from the Pelicans. If the Mavs pass on Texas big man Mohamed Bamba with the No. 5 pick, that would reinforce the notion they’ll go all in to secure the services of either Cousins or the Rockets’ restricted free agent center, Clint Capela

I cannot read the artcile, btu here is hoping that this is a last minute smokescreen and they are targeting Mo Bamba.

100% that's what it is. There is no other reason for this to be a story on draft day. As we've discussed before there is just no way that Cousins is Plan A for Dallas. Also.

Dwight Howard is expected to finalize a buyout with the Brooklyn Nets and enter free agency once trade is complete on July 6, league sources tell Yahoo.
As bad as Dwight's reputation has been, he's still pretty damn productive. His 16.6/12.5 is in the ball park with the expected reduction in production from Cousins. If I'm in the FA market I'd rather throw a cheaper deal at Dwight for 1-2 years than throw more than $25 per at Cousins.

I brought it up before, but Crewz said on here that Dell was considering trading for Dwight before the Boogie trade.
I think Dwight might just say frick it, I am getting $20M and people talk shite about me anyhow, let me go get a ring with the Warriors.

Absolutely. But I'm thinking he's going to take a vet min deal with GSW or whoever lands Kawhi/PG/LeBron. I'm sure the buyout will net him a nice chunk of cash so he'll be ring chasing.

Teodosic opted in with the Clippers, but it sounds like he is going to get bought out. Wouldn’t be a bad option to put behind Rondo or as a full replacement if Rondo leaves for some reason.
He averaged 10/5 in 25 minutes while shooting 38 from deep

The odd man out in Denver could be unrestricted FA Will Barton. Bringing the guard back on a conservative $8M salary would cost the Nuggets an additional $20M in tax penalties (on top of the $20M projected). Denver does have some flexibility with $34M in expiring contracts.
With Jokic getting a new max contract does Will Barton become gettable for the taxpayer MLE? Running it back plus adding Barton is about as good as the offseason can get barring a major trade.

love me some will Barton

What do you all think about Ajinca and Hill + (top 5)protected 1st for Tobias Harris.
The Clippers are aiming for the playoffs as of right now and don't want to take on bad contracts for future assets. Once the dust clears a bit teams that are disappointed will go from buyers to sellers. That's when you start playing around with the trade machine, because maybe instead of Hill/Ajinca/1st for Harris you look at a trade like Niko/Ajinca/Moore/1st for McCollum or Lillard.

Not saying I think this will happen, but anyone think the Pels possibly look at Elfrid Payton?
Suns are going to renounce his rights, he will likely be cheap. He’s from here. Perhaps if Rondo moves on. Would be cool to have him as the back up PG and learn from rondo, some similarities there. Haven’t heard or seen anyone really talk about it, nor do I think it’s likely to happen, but I could see it.

I think there is a chance that McCollum becomes available at some point this year given the right circumstances.

Yeah, Jerry West is not letting them take on long term money. He has two max slots open for next offseason already.

He must have a terrible attitude if they are giving up this quickly. If you bring Rondo back you have the perfect mentor so it's a no brainer. If he turns into something you might make up for a lost draft pick, if he fails out of the league it makes the Jrue trade look that much better. Win-Win for Demps.

Sources: Pacers to decline Lance Stephenson's $4.3M team option
Per Shams LINK
You could tell that Lance had to try, but he seemed like he was really trying to do what the team wanted while he was here. I'd bring him back on a minimum over someone like Liggins or Clark.

I saw someone mention on another site that they thought Will Barton was a primary target for the Pacers.
