if you read between the lines, the organization is more impressed with what Rondo was able to do for Jrue (and the entire offense) than what Boogie does for Miller given the respective costs.
Rondo is a big priority, but there is a limit to what they can offer him. I do not think we will be in the tax with a Boogie deal to end the year unless we add another piece. Dell made it clear that they are not willing to be a tax team just extending Boogie. So if they re-sign Boogie, I expect them to either dump salary or add another player that puts them into contention for the WCF at least.

i really dont see how thats possible but i guess so.
depends on what happens with hill but they'd have to straight salary dump him to a space team and burn a pick to do it...and that isnt bringing back a player who could help
holiday 26MM
davis 26MM
cousins 25MM (?)
hill 13MM
niko 12MM
moore 9MM
ajinca 5MM
jackson 1.3MM
thats 117MM right there and the tax line is 123MM

Too many variables to discuss every avenue now, but they will either package Hill/Moore/Niko + pick(s) for another all-star type player or they will move Anjica/Hill/Moore essentially for space. A midseason Boogie trade could also not be totally out of the picture depending on contrcat, health...etc.
Unless we add someone else, we will be close enough to the tax line to avoid it (given Boogie is not up at $30M) if we do not appear to be legitimate WCF contenders.

clearly, if they move all of AA, EM & SH they can get below the tax but if that happens without player return (and thus salary) they arent going to be contending

Everything is fluid. It is too difficult at this point to discuss the myriad of permutations that allow us to get below the tax at the trade deadline before we even know if Boogie is back and at what price. I also think if we are in serious contention at the dedline, then they will be looking to upgrade Moore, Solo, or even Niko if they haven't already.
However in general if we sign Boogie to $25M and do not acquire another all-star typle player, then I think we will be below the tax as I don't see them foregoing the non-tax team distribution to just dip into the tax with this current roster. Dell said as much at his end of year conference suggesting that they will pay the tax for the right player, but just re-signing Boogie did not seem to qualify.

FWIW Ramona Shelburne was on ESPN earlier and said Lakers backup plans included Deandre Jordan over Boogie.

Interesting, because she's actually pretty plugged into the LA scene.
I could see Jordan opting in, though.

Should we even bother with a draft thread? I like the idea of trading Moore for a late 1st, but the teams that make the most sense for that without sending us much salary back either wouldn't want Moore (ATL) or would want him only after FA if their big fish plans fall through (Philly).

Kevin Barrios at The Bird Writes posted an article yesterday giving his ideas for what the Pels should do this offseason. Good read for those interested.
LINK
Breakdown
Purchase the Lakers pick at 47 with cash and draft Jarred Vanderbilt
Waive Liggins and Okafor
Trade 51 this year and top 10 protected 2019 next year that changes to 2019 and 2020 seconds if not conveyed to the Wizards for Tomas Satoransky
Three-Team trade with Hawks and Nuggets
Hawks get: Solo, pick 58 this year, Denver 2019 2nd, and Pels 2022 second
Nuggets get: Moore
Pels get: Darrell Arthur
Trade Ajinca, Arthur, and 2021 top-10 protected 1st to Orlando for Jonathon Simmons and Wesley Iwundu
Sign one of Will Barton, Kyle Anderson, or Trevor Ariza with the MLE
Sign one of Mario Hezonja, Glenn Robinson III, or Rodney Hood with the BAE
Sign Ed Davis and Devin Harris to vet-mins
re-sign Boogie
Gives you:
Guards: Holiday, Satoransky, Jackson, Harris
Wings: Simmons, Barton/Anderson/Ariza, Miller, Hood/Hezonja/Robinson, Iwundu
Bigs: AD, Boogie, Mirotic, E. Davis, Diallo, Vanderbilt

Why don’t frickers around here want to ever draft in the first round? Also wouldn’t this break the Stepien rule?
Posted on 6/21/18 at 8:27 am to braud2go
No, it wouldn't because the trade would be made tonight I'd imagine so the trade wouldn't be legal until after the new league year begins AFTER our pick is conveyed to Chicago. That's also why he mentioned trading the 2021 1st round pick instead of the 2020 pick.

To me the bottom line to all of these non star level theoretical moves is
1) Demps believes in Hill and isn't going to pay to dump him unless it's part of making a clear upgrade.
2) 3 of Ajinca/Hill/Moore/Niko probably need to be traded at some point this season without bringing back much salary in return.

Oh, I agree. I don't think Satoransky is worth that much and I think Rondo is vital to the team's success moving forward. He needs to be here next year and he'se a priority.
That said, I wouldn't mind Satoransky as a backup. a 6'7" PG that can distribute doesn't grow on trees. And more wing help like Simmons or Hezonja would be welcome.
I do wonder if the Howard move has made the cost for unloading bad contracts a little less. I have hope that Hill is moved but Demps is still enamored by him.

trade occurs after chicago, so it makes it fair game
but agree, if we could make a trade to get a quality player like niko and offload a similarly shitty contract like asik than take the damn 1st
but i'm so tired of not having controllable assets.

I think it shows just how expensive it will be. They paid $17 million next year to dump $7 million this year. If they were getting no money back, like if Atlanta took on a contract, that still probably costs a 1st and 2nd now like Carrol last year, or a 1st at the deadline like Asik. The Pels were incredibly lucky to be able to get Niko back for Asik and a 1st.

Who's our "I got punched in the face by a teammate" Trade Deadline target? Anything we can instigate?

That trade was ridiculously good for the Pels, because Niko is worth the 22nd pick alone. Ignoring the fact that the Pels also dumped Asik in the trade and received a second round pick in return
I don't see the Pels really making any moves tonight, and I agree with you that Demps really likes Hill and won't move on from him before the trade deadline, IMO.

I would love Sato on the Pels. I don’t know that the Wiz want to trade him, but I think he fits perfectly with what we want to do. I don’t think Wall is a huge fan, but they don’t have another backup point. However he does only have 1 year left and I don’t know that Washington can afford to resign him. He played great when Wall was out and changed the dynamic of that offense. I think a trade for him is too complicated because he’s not worth a first alone, but Washington doesn’t have much else to give up and cannot take on salary while he is probably worth more than just 2nds and cash.
If we are trading with the Hawks, I’d rather cut out Denver and get Muscala.
