Not sure WHEN the last time was...that the Pels actually "won" a trade but...

---if they want to do so...it's probably gonna have to involve moving Herb Jones...before it gets too late. Herb is worth a WHOLE lot more...to a contending team that thinks they are right on the edge of possibly winning it all...than he is worth, to a team like the Pels.
To such a team, Herb is the "piece" that might push them over the top...while...to the Pels, he is just a fan favorite (and obviously...MY favorite) who will help them win a few more regular season games in another fairly meaningless season.
In a coupla years, Herb's trade value will be FAR less...since he will be making quite a bit more money and will be 29 years old. Bottom line...I think we would be surprised at just how HUGE a return we could get for Herb...if we go ahead and move him now while he has 2 more years at a fantastic deal for whichever team trades for him. Tough choice...for sure...but probably what would be BEST...for ALL concerned...in the long term.

Why even exist as an organization when you get an herb just to trade an herb

Just depends on the "return" you can get for Herb. Surely there's SOME point where some team might offer SO much...that you would be willing to move...even a player like Herb ?

If the spurs stay at 2 and Philly is looking to trade 3…Herb may be on the table for that. Gets you Harper.
Would need a 3rd team to take CJ
Rebuild with Zion, Trey, Harper…still have Murray’s contract to trade later for more pieces

That would be insane for the Pels to do. Keep your eyes on the Celtics to see what they get for Derrick White when/if they move him. That would be closer to Herb's true value...imo. And actually, Herb should be worth even more than DW...based on current contract and age...when compared to DW.
BTW: The freekin' Thunder absolutely STOLE Caruso (another 3 & D) from the Bulls...(Thunder will probably move Dort very soon)

Just imagine being able to trade herb and have a very comparable younger replacement from Australia????????
Posted on 5/24/25 at 3:12 pm to Dinky Mulberry
Perceived value sometimes better than actual value and Herb falls under the perceived umbrella.
I am not sure how the Pels want to navigate this. Were sort of stuck in limbo with the fail lottery.

Noted...but that Aussie gonna have to show me some serious improvement on the offensive end...to become "a very comparable" replacement for Herb (I'll admit to the "younger" part...g)

Theoretically yes.
But when's the last time you saw a team that gave away a player like herb and come away with anything of significance. NBA trades are ridiculously one sided 95% of the time.

Is there a reason the Pels should be concerned about what Herb’s trade value is now vs in 2 years? My preference is that they don’t trade the elite role player in the prime of his career at all.

The last trade we won had to be the Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams trade, right?
Memphis:
Eric Bledsoe
Steven Adams
Jared Bulter
Zaire Williams
Vince Williams Jr
2025 2nd
Charlotte:
Wes Iwundu
Mark Williams
Tyler Harvey
$1
New Orleans:
Jonas Valanciunas
Brandon Boston Jr
Davonte Graham
Trey Murphy III
Of course Graham was not great and overpaid, but getting Murphy was worth it

Not much to discuss if you think the Pels would definitely be better off...long term...by keeping Herb and...in 2 years...when Herb COULD become UFA...resigning him for a HUGE pay raise. Be fun to have Herb around for at least another 5 years or so...I'm just not sure it's the best thing to do for the Pels.
Just depends on whether or not you think the Pels could get a relatively HUGE return by trading Herb now...or by the trade deadline this coming season...to a seriously contending team...who could have him available for 2 seasons...at one of the BEST contracts in the NBA and also be in position to go ahead and extend him and avoid a possible UFA situation...if they decide Herb actually does push them over the edge and make them a VERY serious playoff contender.
I probably have Herb overrated as far as what I think he could "return" to the Pels in a trade with the right team. Then again...maybe not.
To be honest, I think the Pels will do what they usually do...which is hang on to Herb during a coupla more "average" years...then overpay him...and suddenly find he doesn't have anywhere close to the same "trade value" that he currently has. Pretty much a "rinse and repeat" situation... which the Pels are famous for doing...with their team development plan.

Herb is coming off a serious shoulder injury, his trade value isn’t exactly what it was this time last year. He needs to get back on the court and do Herb things like getting his long arms to deflect passes causing turnovers, then if the right deal is there you can trade him. Right note you’d be lucky getting 60 cents on the dollar.

Good points...and why...IF I was wanting to move Herb...I would wait until the trade deadline this upcoming season. By then, hopefully Herb would show he is "back to normal"...the Pels can get much more than that 60 cents on the dollar...and ANY interested team would be a much better position to decide if they are positioned to "make a serious run" come playoff time...AND if a player like Herb could give them that needed nudge. Not sure I see an advantage in trying to move Herb...before that deadline.

You’re not upgrading but sure as shite would’ve made it easier. Would suck to go from both to neither.
