The unknown is whether we are heading for a full rebuild or whether we are going to try to quickly try to contend. And that's obviously going to depend on the draft. The future of the franchise is obviously very different depending on whether we are picking at #1 or #6.

If we are getting #1, then we can contend quickly. We either keep Zion to pair him with Flagg, or we try to trade Zion for elite talent. If we get #6, then we might trade Zion for a bunch of picks and do the slow rebuild, and maybe we trade Herb and/or TMIII and tank.

If we're going to tank next season and Zion is gone, then I think that Willie is a quality developmental coach for a young roster, and I have no problem whatsoever with keeping him.

But if we are keeping Zion, or if we're going to try to be good, then Willie needs to go. Zion needs a coach who will get in his face. SVG wasn't a bad coach for Zion (SVG was just bad for BI).

I’m sorry, but willie is a good coach for young players? Huh??

Dude doesn’t play reeves, didn’t play Hawkins when it mattered, played freaking snell over Murphy, etc etc etc

I won't ever give up on the team (just like the Saints) I really hope Dumars is more of the other BS role and not the Basketball part. Lol.. but if he fires Willie it would help.

I’m glad I gave up on this hopeless franchise years ago. Getting the short end of the stick in the AD trade pretty much evaporated my fleeting interest and just confirmed to me that this is a franchise that is not taken seriously by the players and/or the rest of the league. In the chance that a star ends up here, you might as well start the countdown clock on when they are going to check out. If you ask me, Zion has been “quiet quitting” for about 2 seasons now.

There is literally nothing at the moment that can generate excitement for the future. I’m sure I’ll pay attention again when news breaks that the team is moving. Aside from the 2007-08 season, there has been nothing to show in the last 20 seasons. We’re a glorified G League team. Nothing more.

Yeah, he is. Guys like Herb, Naji, and Jose blossomed under his guidance. He's done well with Reeves and Karlo this season.

Willie has done a great job overall at developing young talent. I would be fine with keeping him if we are trading Zion and doing a long rebuild.

People are upset with the franchise and not thinking about this logically.

Trading Zion and keeping Willie puts this team on the relocation timeline.

You have no marquee player
You have a coach no one in the fanbase cares for or wants
You are stereotyped as a cheap and poverty franchise and for that you prove people right over and over

New Orleans basketball is on life support.

Herb and Naji and Jose don’t need coaching. They were already adults when they were drafted. Upper classmen.

Please tell me how Willie actually developed naji herb and Jose.

Relocation only makes money for one owner and takes an open market off the market. Expansion makes money for all owners and the more open markets there are the more they can charge to expand.

I get that you're saying interest would be so low as to kill the franchise, but local revenue is becoming less and less important to team success. A rebuild here might kill this board and turn us all into casual fans, but I don't think it will kill the Pelicans.

This ownership has no interest in ever rebuilding. I would welcome it but they won't tank willingly.

hell no id be even more invested. we'd actually have a foundational plan set up instead of trying to do quick fixes that just shrink our ceiling as a franchise.

bensons have fricked this franchise over by handcuffing our front office with win now moves that dont help us win. you have to build through the draft and be patient for small market teams. then you go from there

Yeah a rebuild would have me tuned in. Hiring Dumars and trying to force this shite team to be good is what would make me tune out

We have no marquee player now. We have a marquee employee who plays on occasion.

He also refused to play Karlo for a year and half and now he looks like one of the few actual rotation pieces on the roster.

It is what it is, they took away my excitement but oh well.

If they win everything will be just fine
