The problem is they dont want to include the guys we probably want.
I genuinely think it’s about a 90% chance we do nothing at the trade deadline.

What is absorbing salaries going to do for them at this point? Nothing. They want and need talent to start winning. Houston was in much better shape than Detroit when they went and overpaid for their acquisitions this offseason.
Absorbing salaries gets you draft picks. Ask the Thunder and the Jazz. Part of getting talent to win is accumulating draft picks and getting winning players.
No they werent lol. Houston was shithole. Jalen Green was jacking up shots and KPJ was acting a fool.

Detroit doesn't have a Udoka to attract players either and a 10 win ball club ain't going to look good to free agents. Even then, Houston is still an under .500 ball club with all their splash signings.
Sure Udoka was a factor but by far biggest factor was both those players got paid. Houston in a competitive west conf is a game within the play-in- thats a huge win for an organization which was one of the worst teams in the league.
Theres always a path to rebuild. Taking on Lavine without getting a first rounder is astronomically stupid.

Again, they want to win by adding high end talent. Not play salary cap games. You of all people should know as a fan of the Pelicans, that attracting and signing free agents is not easy and can put you in a hole real fast. We've been passed by time and time again even when we offered the most money. Detroit is literally in the same position. Free agency isn't glamorous for teams in Detroit's spot.

Bingo.
They don’t want to send out Case, Thompson, Ivey, or Duren.
Most of the remaining names on the roster are washouts from other teams like Wiseman, Kevin Knox, etc.
And they can’t send out any firsts until about 2028 or so because of the pick they owe the Knicks for Duren.

We can agree to disagree on the free agency part but you gotta agree trading for Zach Lavine is not the way to go. Theres no way I can see that working out.

If the Lakers are in a position where at the end of the season they end it with a whimper and LeBron doesn’t make the playoffs, I think that’s a situation where he potentially reconsiders his future. He has roots here in LA. His other son, Bryce, is playing in high school out here and his family is out here in LA. You’d be giving up money and a lifestyle to go somewhere else and try to win a fifth ring. Overall, handicapping it, I think he’s going to be here and stay in LA.

It’s that time of year again when Bron starts leaking out veiled threats to leave in order to try and force his team to leverage their future

Problem is they don’t have much of a future in assets.
They literally have one tradeable 1st, no young players outside of Reaves who has fallen off this year, and nothing else.
They can’t even find a team to take Russel who is probably having his best season ever shooting over 40% from 3 and almost 50% overall.

I'd love to somehow get Reaves

That's never stopped them before

Gotta find a sucker willing to take the deal and have to make salaries match.
Problem is that I don’t think DLo or Reaves is in demand unless they eat a godawful amount of future salary for them.

Why?
We are super deep. He would barely play and is not better than who we have.
Ingram - obviously better
CJ - obviously better
Herb - obviously better
Trey - obviously better
Hawkins - better and better contract
Dyson - smaller contract, elite defender (not the same type of player though), maybe could steal minutes
Naji - smaller contract, defender (not the same type of player), maybe could steal minutes
Jose - smaller contract, could steal his minutes

He's much better than all 3 .
He'd take some minutes from Hawkins too.

Too bad frick the Lakers amirite?

Honestly I think Reaves fits better than Ingram

Yeah, Reeves fell off this year, but to say Hawk, Dyson and Naji are better than him is just asinine.

I don't think Reaves is better than BI, but I do think the Pels are better with Reaves than BI.

If BI was on this Detroit team, what do you think their record would be?
Last year was the first time a BI team ever finished better than .500, and our roster is a lot better than Detroit.
Detroit trading anything of value for BI because they are desperate to win games makes no sense.
Posted on 1/25/24 at 8:38 pm to shel311
Yeah Reaves distributes as good as BI, shoots more 3s and is a better defender.
BI is better overall but I'd rather have Reaves for this team

The Lakers will regret it if they give him up in a trade.
