re: NBA Offseason officially kicks off, Ingram’s days in NOLA coming to an end per Stein

quote:Agreed. Our starters were 15th in the NBA in 1st Quarter Offensive Rating last season (3rd in defense). I wouldn't be opposed to shuffling things around a bit to see what works best.
The Pels won a lot of games last year with the more balanced bench units winning their minutes and the starters being pretty meh. I would expect to see the same thing happen to start the year until they see enough success with certain lineups to actually bench some big names in favor of balance.

I'm tired of debating the starting SG. All evidence points to McCollum being the guy. But people don't want to hear it and keep putting him on the bench. So I just let it go now and let them be super upset when the season starts..

The real question isn't whether its CJ/ Herb at SG but Herb/ Trey at SF.
BI will be moved. If BI isn't moved then both Trey/ Herb are coming off the bench.

I don't hate Ingram. I hate that he is not the player that this team needs, even though he could be if he wanted to. And if he doesn't want to be what the Pelicans need, it's just wasting time and money keeping him on the team.
Can't argue with that.

We are not moving a first team all defensive player shooting 40% from the outside to the bench. He is our main point of attack defender. Arguing over that is like arguing about us not playing a center. It’s not realistic and a waste of time.
My best guess for starters currently is
Murray
Herb
BI
Zion
Center
But a lot could still happen.

Yeah maybe like a breakthrough realization that CJ isn't coming off the bench lol

Only way he doesn’t is if we trade Bi.

I really wonder if we wouldn't just start small. No center.

If we start small, I'd think it would make more sense for Trey Murphy to be at the 5. He's 6'9" with a 7'1" wingspan

I personally love that small ball lineup way more than one with CJ. Our perimeter defense will have to be stout if we’re gonna go that small which is why Herb and Trey have to start

Karlo Matkovic is on the Summer League Team roster

We've seen pictures of him looking bulkier this summer, but based on last season, BI actually has the size and strength to hold his own against bigs. Unless Trey takes a decent step this year, which he might if he hits the weights enough, I think BI is the best candidate for the job.

Allegedly only a 1st which is a little hard to believe.

Right. It's what Willie figured out at the end of the season. We all know that BI is a defensive liability on the perimeter, so if you want to hide him, just do it on the center. His long arms and tremendous standing reach mean that he's good at denying the entry pass into the post, even if opposing bigs can push him around.
But the truth is that no one defender in a small-ball lineup can handle the bruising of defending against centers for too long, so Trey, Zion, and Herb would actually all take turns defending the opposing bigs.
We'd constantly be changing up our coverages and trying to keep the opponent off-balance and prevent them from getting into any kind of rhythm.
The ability to have BI, Zion, Trey, and Herb all take reps guarding the opposing center is one reason that I think that we could make small-ball work.

I guess that's why they haven't traded for Kessler yet. This could easily be Utah posturing, but if it is, they are posturing against the report saying Kessler was being shopped for "at least a 1st".

I can't stand that bastard Ainge

In other words
"(2) 1sts in the 20's isn't good enough value"
It looks like the only way we get Kessler with (2) picks is trading BI for better picks and then flipping them.
I was hoping we could keep those picks and trade our shitty picks but Ainge doesn't usually play that game.

Have seen no credible reports of them turning down 2 1sts. If they had been offered 2 1sts, I would be shocked if they did not grab that and run.

i think the 2 firsts thing is more than just kessler's worth.
It's the Jazz absorbing salary as well being factored in.
