goal of the offseason was to add to the PG position on the team, not take away. Jose is a major part in our bench being so successful. Not to say you can't get a bigger backup PG at some point that maybe provides more in certain playoff matchups.
That being said, the bigger issue in my scenario is the Jazz have little need for Jose on the last year of his deal as compared to Hawkins.

Yall are completely missing the point.
Yes Hawk can get us more value than Jose. Jose also has enough value to keep us from losing an extra pick. Hawk may get us a pick. Jose may keep us a pick.
Let's say Kessler comes back. We also just got our starting PG. Everyone wants Huerter for "extra shooting" and now we have Jose/ CJ/ Herb/ Reeves at PG/ SG besides Murray and lose Hawk.
If Jose/ Hawk both = around a pick then Hawk's impact is way more important than Jose's now 15min on an expiring contract..
Come on guys

First I'm getting whined at because Jose is a better player than Tyus Jones now we want to keep Jose and trade Hawk. Lol

I’m saying Hawk has more value than Jose.
He is replaceable but his salary is so small he can’t match worth a shite and the team getting him has little to no long term control over him, unlike Hawk.
I’m open to moving Jose but expecting him to be a needle mover in a significant deal is unlikely,

If its the difference between:
(1)1st via Kings + (1)1st via Pels for Kessler
Or
(1)1st via Pels + Jose + 2nds for Kessler
Then yes its worth it.
Jose averaged 18min/ 7pts/ 2ast/ 2reb and just got upgraded with an All Star.... I love him too but let's not act like he is a vital piece to this team just because of the "city favorite" tag.
Hawk is expected to be our future SG with a 30y/o ahead of him on (2) year contract.
After C/PF its our most replaceable spot and player.
We just traded Dyson (more value than Jose) and are clearly trying to contend.
Most people on here want to keep Jose and trade for Carter like we are mid rebuild. Its weird.

Jose is worth more to us than he is with other teams, I don't know that he really has value in a trade.
I definitely don't want to trade Hawk either, though.
ETA: I would absolutely rather trade an extra first than Hawk.

Now if its an extra 1st or Jose + 2nds what do you do?
If Jose has more value to us than other teams then choosing a 1st > trading him means Jose is valued close to such. Which means we overvalued Jose as a whole instead of "for this team".

No, it isn't.
First of all, we don't have any 2nds to trade except 2030 and 2031. The Jazz aren't ineterested in that at all.
The vast majority of people would rather have Jose than a future 1st.
No one wants your $15M/yr backup PG Tyus Jones. the backup PG spot is literally the least important position of the 10 starting/backup positions.

I will take a future 1st > a 26 y/o with a career average of 7.5pts/ 2.7ast/ 2.2reb
This is hilarious.

Yes agreed. And he would be a very strong 7-10 on a contender....
It is the least important of (10) positions.
Murray/
CJ/ Hawk
Trey/ Herb
Zion/
/
After PF/C tell me what the best upgrade is, Tyus to round out the top 10 with strong PG presense or Huerter as your 3rd string....
And yet yall dont even realize you "hate" the Tyus fit because yall are obsessed with a fantasy of Jose here long term. Its weird for a guy who isn't a core piece after trading Dyson and BI on the block.

I don't think this is a realistic scenario, I don't think that Jose is worth a first round pick.

He isn't worth a 1st.. But Jose + 2nds may be able to be the difference between keeping a late rd 1st or protected 1st.
For a group of people saying we are losing our war chest yall sure as hell are fighting to keep Jose.
We are cool shipping out CJ and Hawk for win now pieces but please whatever you do hold on to our most vital asset Jose....

The point
——
Your head
Most of us are saying “Jose won’t return any assets or make the difference between the draft picks sent out.”
IOW, he does not move the needle. To any other team, he is just a guy on a low salary.

None of us get to make the decision anyway, so it really doesn't matter what our opinion on the value of Jose is
Posted on 7/3/24 at 2:06 pm to teke184
Y'all give me a headache.
- better than Tyus Jones
- would trade Hawk > Jose Reasoning: because Jose has less value
- would rather keep Jose > upgrade because his last year is cheap
- keep Jose because we overvalue him
So because we overvalue Jose and he is not worth much to other teams we shouldn't upgrade but should keep him and trade one of our more valuable players?

Because ive stayed on 1 solid, logical plan/ goal the past few days and I'm getting speratic arguments that all conflict each other while arguing the same obvious points.
The semantics are wild.

I've said Tyus Jones is an upgrade from Jose for our team and fit on a (10) man roster. A very understandable and reasonable statement.
I have got:
- Jose is better
- Jose has no value
- Don't upgrade because Jose has more value
- Upgrading a key position isn't important
- Argument about Jose costing 2mil even though this is a future contract conversation
- Jose sells merch
- Jose > future 1st
Y'all are the ones all over the damn place.

Jose is better and way better defender. He’s a fan favorite that brings energy and leadership to the second team. He’s also a glue guy on a great contract. I don’t want to change the backup PG position for the sake of changing it for a lateral move at best.

You are arguing for the sake of arguing, just like the Dyson argument. Ultimately it doesn't matter at all what you think Jose is worth, or what anyone else on this board thinks that Jose is worth. It's completely irrelevant. There's no way to prove who is right.

One guy is coming off the best year of his career averaging 12pts/2.7reb/7ast (with the same defensive stats as Jose on a shitty team)
12pts/ 2.7reb/ 7ast/ 1.1stl/ 41% 3pt
7pts/ 2.3reb/ 2.7ast/ 1.1stl/ 37.7% 3pt
Is complete bullshite.
Means everything
Man some of y'all are fricking special. Love the board as a whole tho.

Well...it puts butts in the seats and sells merch I would think. If two guys are close should the fan favorite win? Of course if one is superior in all facets and cheaper there's not a argument.
