I too wish I can get Tim Duncan after David Robinson gets hurt. Then get Wemby and Harper back to back.

I mean yeah I’d 100% LOVE to be where the spurs are right now. But when you say “modeled,” I take it as how the organization is run as a whole.
Not taking anything away from San Antonio, but they literally lucked into a generational talent in Wemby, the consensus number 2 prospect in his class(Harper), and another top 5 talent in Castle.

Sacramento Kings went to a Conference Finals once
We are worse than the Sacramento Kings

We should take a playbook from SAS and add (2) very good draft pieces in a 2 year period along with having a former #1 overall draft pick and an all stars level PG....
I agree with modeling from consistency but luck or lack their of definitely plays a part here.
OKC got SGA + picks and we got Anthony DNP Davis.
SAS got Wemby and we got Zion DNP Williamson.
The stars on those teams actually being successful stars played a big part in their success.

People think this is easy lolol. Spurs get Duncan after Robinson is hurt. Then they get Wemby and Harper. Wemby in offseason went to train with monks. We “lucked” into Zion who focused on pornstars and food. We “lucked” into Anthony Davis who is not a #1 and stayed hurt. Even when we got him and Boogie together, he tears his Achilles.

Almost every other team in the league.
OKC obviously being the top. Presti looks like he could go down as one of the greatest GM's in history. Has made insanely good trades, drafted well, and still has a treasure chest of picks.
Houston had a crazy quick rebuild.
Most teams that are sucking like the Pels are at least setting themselves up for future success. The Nets have, counting this year, FOURTEEN first round picks by 2033. Memphis has 11. Hornets have 11. Jazz have eight.

So this is the last time we can make trades?

The Spurs very famously did things to put themselves in position for a lot of these guys
We've also won the lottery twice
We didn't do shite afterwards
The Spurs got guys like Manu and Parker and Kawhi and Castle, things we certainly didn't do.
They drafted well and made smart moves.

I'll play devil's advocate..
We luck into #1 in the AD draft. He is every bit as good as advertised, but tells the team he refuses to play center. Which gets us guys like Ajinca, Asik, etc. Then we finally get a center to put next to him and that guy blows out his Achilles. AD then requests a trade, forces his way to a team he likes, and immediately volunteers to play center.
Then we fall arse backward into Zion. A media-created "generational talent" who cant shoot, doesn't play much defense, shows signs of fitness issues, and surrounds himself with people who are fine with him banging Insta'hoors and pounding Mountain Dew. For a 'slam dunk' #1 pick that you cant possibly pass on, he has a laundry list of faults that could turn him into a turd, and if he didn't play for Duke he wouldn't have even sniffed the hype he got.
If you trade Zion you look like the franchise who pisses away great players. If you keep him and try to build around him, you have to guess if he'll play 60 games or 6 games every season.
For as "lucky" as we seemed to be, we were dealt some pretty unlucky shite thru the years

Those teams also have 0 assets because they traded them to get those picks.
We have (7) picks + Murray/ Zion/ Trey/ Herb. So we can easily get anywhere from 12-15 picks if this goes sideways.
The pels adding guys like Fears/ Queen/ Bey while still having assets like Murray/ Z/ Herb/ Trey on the roster is exactly how you set yourself up for success.
We have a chance to compete AND still get 14 picks. Those teams just have picks.

We “put ourselves in position” for Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper but we feel to 7 that’s just lottery lucky. We got guys like Herb, Trey, Dejounte, CJ. At the end of the day it’s on the stars. Imagine if the Spurs stayed at #3 and drafted Scoot Henderson. Where would they be now?

This isn’t even pessimistic or optimistic. This is just straight up facts. But it always gotta be gloom and doom (for valid reason) or sunshine and rainbows (less valid)

Remember when the Pels took the #1 in the West, Suns, team to 6 games in the first round without Zion. Remember when we thought "next year is it"?
Man, those were to the times.
WTF happened?
