Shamit is saying that the deal will absolutely be expanded.
Since the deal needs to go into the next NBA year, we have to send out more salary to match. Including Matt Ryan or JRE wouldn't be enough, so we'd either need to dump both of them into the trade or expand it via a BI trade, a Hawk trade, or a JV sign-and-trade.
I'm not sure if he's right about this, but it bears watching.

I think they’re going to search for a BI trade as free agency starts to combine this. If that takes too long, they’ll dump jre and matt ryan. I hope they find the BI trade soon; I just personally like Ryan and wouldn’t want to see him get dumped just to make the trade work.

I wonder why, the Pels should only be adding 400k in salary if the trade is done in the 23-24 year, which should have them about 200k short of the tax line for that season.
I don’t know how the trade kicker works for this though, not sure if it applies to the 23-24 salary.

Trade kicker is paid by the sending team, not the receiving team

But it still counts towards the cap doesn’t it?

I’m not on twitter and maybe this been posted already. But is there been any tweets by Murray or any pelicans showing excitement or any reaction to the trade? I know it’s not officially official yet but is there anything out there?

Murray posted “NOLA #504” followed by a gif of him seemingly hyped up.

Murray posted NOLA #504 on IG last night shortly after the trade announcement.

I think this trade also means Klutch is OK with their players being in Nola at least some of their players. No way this trade gets done if Rich Paul doesn’t want Dejounte in Nola. We just saw him threaten the entire league to get bronny to the lakers

Things change. I’m not saying it needs to happen but don’t say it can’t just because we’ve never seen it.
Let's roleplay. You are the coach/management. I'll be McCollum. How do you tell me I need to come off the bench?

I don’t think that Paul had anything against New Orleans, he just had to help out his boss, and his client was a petty child. Not saying that he doesn’t act like a terrorist, but I don’t think it’s personal to him. He just has the business acumen of a wild animal.

Could have been a very easy fix to avoid tax if necessary. If true, Pels either have another deal pretty much worked out or were very sloppy.

Easy. Your sacrifice will help us be a better team and we’ll win more. This may be your shot at a championship.
Now if we don’t win- thats when people start getting pissed.

The easiest way out of the awkward situation is to sub CJ out first, and then play him mostly with the second unit. That way he can still start, yet you still get the benefit of playing the unit with Murray, Herb, Trey, Zion, defensive center. Murray being 6’5 is the smallest guy in that lineup. That’s a monster advantage defensively. Depending on the center we land, we could be the best defensive team in the league.

It all depends how these lineups fare with CJ but if it becomes apparent that Trey in the lineup is just a substantially better lineup- it should be your starting lineup.
Now if the difference isn’t that big then I agree with you. I love CJ but hes a grown arse man making 30 mil- the best guys should be the starters. If he says I won’t go to bench- you trade him and move on.

Agreed. I hope he can see the bigger picture. First to come off the bench and be able to be the scorer essentially. Most likely go against inferior players also. 25-30 mins for him will make him fresh for the playoffs (if we are healthy and can make it)

Based on what? I have won more than any other player on the team. I'm the reason we have been in the playoffs 2 out of the past 3 years. I've played out of position and through injury, when all your other "stars" were too hurt to go. I have brought stability and professionalism to the locker room. I am the team leader and captain. Who's more deserving?

If I don't play this team is in the playin. I can go to a bunch of other teams, with better odds, to ring chase.

It'll be too late then. You've already told McCollum that he's not good enough to start anymore, so you've wrecked his role on the team. He's no longer the leader.
Posted on 6/30/24 at 8:06 am to brmark70816
Okay CJ, we’ll have a fair and objective competition between you and Trey. Here’s the competition, you’re both going to stand with your backs to the wall over there, and whoever is taller gets the starting position

This is just wrong, nobody is saying CJ is not good enough to start, it’s that the best way for us to win more games is CJ as the 6th man to improve our scoring off the bench.

I believe the issue is that Murray has an “unlikely” incentive bonus regarding if the team makes the playoffs. Because Atlanta did not, it was considered unlikely and does not count on cap unless paid. By being traded to Pels, they did make playoffs, it becomes likely and now counts. I can’t swear that makes up all the differences in the conversation, but just know that it’s a part of this.
