For the record, Kessler’s salary fits into the trade exception for Kira while BI can be absorbed whole by Utah.

Kessler plus picks plus a 35m+ TPE isn’t necessarily bad. I figure we’d use that to plug the holes on the roster as trades become available.

BI is probably dealt for a starting C.

The only center we have on the roster is a project rookie who we took at pick 21….so

I’d rather bet on this being the season LeBron falls off. They aren’t going to be any better than last year, AD is a ticking time bomb ready to get injured. I don’t think this deal makes us better than the Nuggets, TWolves or Mavs. This is just a desperate attempt by Griff to save his job

In the new CBA you can also trade for players and fit them into the MLE.

Yup, and the only two ways we have to add in FA is the taxpayer MLE and maybe two minimum contracts before we hit the first apron

it’s interesting cause if you trade Ingram for a center, you still leave Trey on the bench. Wonder if they’ll at the very least look for a big time center and dangle BI and Herb and see who bites. Maybe Sengun + a player/picks or KAT. Maybe just keep Trey as a 6th man for another year. Some options here.

I guess I should have said who do we target now.

I wouldn’t take Ingram for free. I just don’t like him as a player at all.

CJ has to go or come off the bench. No excuse for Trey to come off the bench again

Don’t know if it matters but EJ included in trade as well.

We included EJ Liddell in the trade. That’s a small win too. He had a guaranteed contract this year. Smart to get rid of a guaranteed contract that won’t see the court this year

Got our point guard. Now trade BI for a center, re-sign Naji, and get some front-court depth.

Murray/CJ/Jose
Herb/Hawk/Reeves
Murphy/Naji/Ryan
Zion/JRE
Trade/Missi

I feel Kessler should be the guy.

This is what makes me like the trade. We’re still able to make waves. I think even if you don’t get a center, BI can go for assets just so you get Trey in the starting lineup.

I’m pumped.

I think any deal for KAT is dead, it would have to be BI and Herb going out to match salaries.

I find it more likely they keep and start CJ than trade or bench him. Especially now with Dejounte. Griff knows we need shooting. Regular season CJ is still very good. I just don’t see us trading him this offseason. Maybe all star break or next summer.

This is a fantastic trade for us. We needed a true PG, and we got a very good one. We gave up a competent backup center on a MLE salary (meaning that Nance's talent is replaceable at an appropriate price), a couple of picks, and Dyson.

I was and still am very high on Dyson, but with Herb on our team, his defensive excellence was a luxury, not a true team need. On the other hand, Dyson is going to dramatically help the Atlanta defense -- they desperately need a guy like him (or like Herb, of course, which is why they wanted Herb) next to Trae to cover for Trae's deficiencies.

Those of you upset about this trade are absolutely insane. This is crazy good value.

To me leave this up to Willie(I know kind of scary). Make Trey earn that starting gig in camp and preseason. If he does, sell CJ on bench role and if CJ doesn’t like it- you can trade him.
