There’s no way the Pelicans don’t match any offer under 26 mil a year. You don’t lose the asset. There’s no contract immovable. Look at Westbrook and Wall trade, many thought there was no way. But truth is anything can get traded. Lonzo overpaid, as long as he’s performing like this, is better than Lonzo gone for nothing. If a team is still interested in Lonzo that’s not gonna change next year.
Don’t put it past Klutch to have told other teams “don’t trade for him, he won’t resign.” So now we get him inked to a deal and teams know what their getting into. Teams used that against us in these trade negotiations. So if he doesn’t mesh, don’t worry guys, trades are still gonna come in for Lonzo.

He's a RFA, don't make a shite what they say, any team that would have traded for him would have matched any contract.

Griff didn't get the offers he felt justified trading him, so he didn't get traded. Plain and simple, that's all it is.

Precisely. We're not gonna ship him off for nothing right now when we can package him and Bledsoe in the offseason with picks for something we want.

We can be buyers. Not sellers.

True and I should’ve been more clear. I meant more like Klutch could say how we would be so unhappy there. So teams can use that in negotiation with Pelicans saying we are risking him being unhappy and not liking the fit. Yes he’s a RFA, but you have half the season to prove to him you are a good team and make him happy and want to be there. Klutch is very good at getting their guys to go where they want.

Imagine justifying a 26 mil a year contract for Lonzo by comparing him to Wall and Westbrook. Two players who make their teams worse and are vastly overpaid. So with your logic, maybe we’ll get Markelle Fultz in return for Lonzo because as you said “there’s no immovable contracts”. You just trade a shite contract for another shite contract. That’s definitely gonna help us

I also hope you realize if we sign Lonzo for that much, we’re nearing the borderline of the luxury tax and won’t have much to use on guys like hart or any other sort of quality depth. Oh and the fact that Zion is eligible for an extension after next season. A player like Lonzo is no where near worth that kind of cap space hell. This ain’t 2k hoss

Nothing is going to make lonzo want to be here.

Don't you think they already talked about all this.

Lonzo is a bitch. He wants to leave. It is what it is.

You’ve been melting all day and I still haven’t seen you put forward a compelling argument for why???

I don’t even care for Lonzo all that much but I don’t get this behavior?

If Lonzo gets 18-22 mil he is a perfectly moveable, neutral to positive value asset.

Lauri for Lonzo will be there in the summer.

Lonzo has improved every year in the league and he, Zion, and BI have a great relationship.

I just don’t get this aggression and anger from some of you?

I mean, maybe Gayle told Griff that she's OK paying the tax next season. Maybe that's why Lonzo didn't get traded. Who knows?

is cap space issues really not a compelling argument and putting an investment on a player that’s helped contribute a team that’s been one of the healthiest teams in the league to a whooping 11th place in their conference? Tied with a team who’s trying to tank in OKC. I still see major flaws in Lonzos game. You can find players in the future that have the same type of 3&D qualities for half the price. I hope I’m wrong if we do extend him and keep him. I don’t think he moves that needle for us.

Also Bronc I see what you’re saying at 18-20 mil and possible movability in the future. But giving that guy around 25+ mil like OP suggested is just flat out mentally challenged

I think most would agree that if someone signs him to an offer sheet for over 22-24M, you have to let him walk at that point. But 18-20 is perfectly doable.

Pretty much this. 18-20 and we should still be able to package him as an asset for a bigger fish down the line. Anything beyond 20 and if he doesn’t improve, it will possibly cost us assets to move him. 24 or 25+, I’d definitely let him walk and not take the gamble...

Mfing this. I'm sure Lonzo wants all this shite to be over and sure he may want to be in L.A. with his kids but I'm sure Zion and Ingram are like "we can build something special down here if you're here".

Lonzo needs to take another step but imo he has this year. Shot selection is much better, he's a good 3pt shooter and if he steps up on defense he can absolutely be the 3rd guy.

Zion the unstoppable mountain
BI the guy that can get you a bucket
Lonzo the 3nD guard/wing

You should take a look at what ~40% high volume 3 point shooters make.

Aside from a tiny handful of ring chasing vets and guys on rookie deals, they make 18+ per year.

This is where we ask

Identify the “muh 3&D” players in the league the last two years who

Are 23 or younger
Has attempted at least 691 3P
Is shooting 38% or better from three
Who also averaged at least 6.4 RPG, 5.4 APG, and 1.4 SPG

Only our fans would want to get rid of a 23 year old who has actually improved year over year... To give run to young guards “to see what we got”. But ya got a guy who is young and showing ya what he’s got
