Maybe if they plan to trade Lonzo, but it still seems like the wrong direction to go.
Yeah, if we move on from Lonzo I think Haliburton would be a good fit, but if they plan to keep Lonzo long term I don't think it makes sense. We've already seen that Lonzo can operate as a secondary ball handler but needs a primary ball handler next to him, so adding another secondary ball handler really doesn't make sense.

That being said, if they think that Haliburton is the best player available, then make the pick. Worst case, you get to see him for a year and make a decision on Lonzo next offseason.

ETA: I also think they were full of shite when they said "he is what we thought Lonzo would become". When Lonzo came out, everyone thought he would be a primary ball handler.

Oladipo informed the Pacers he's fully committed and doesn't want to be traded, so that takes off a fallback option for any teams, and maybe adds Pacers to the mix for Jrue.

quote:

Two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo has informed the Pacers that he is fully committed to the franchise and direction of team entering the upcoming season, he tells @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

Victor Oladipo on @TheAthleticNBA: "I know there have been people saying that I have asked players to trade for me. That's just not true, period. I love my teammates, I cherish the state of Indiana and I'm focused on leading this franchise to a title.”

What is the thinking that this would add Jrue to the mix with Pacers?

He must have not liked the rumors of the teams who were in the running for him. It’ll be interesting what Indiana does now with the Boston rumors.

Pacers will be in the tax, so could be looking to move a little salary.

Oladipo staying means they will be even more inclined to win and make him happy.

Denial is what you’d do if you didn’t say those things, but it’s also what you do when a team is trying to trade you and news about you is killing your trade value. Remember CP3 and the Rockets. They had a pretty quick denial from CP3 that there was any trouble in paradise. He was traded shortly there after.

The Oladipo news originally seemed beyond repair, he wanted the bright lights of a glamour market, not sleepy middle America. When has that situation ever gone back to “No guys, it’s fine, I like it here and I’m all about the winning.” It doesn’t.

No way they thought that’d be enough.

I’m sure we laughed at that like we did with Magic’s first offers for AD

KOC said Portland is interested, but also said this

quote:

I appreciate you sharing this but the context matters: Portland has already expressed interest but as I said on the podcast it’s highly unlikely anything happens. They don’t have the pieces that other teams do. It does, however, illustrate their intentions to bolster that teams.

only 5 more days or so and we should have a lot more clarity. I start to hate the smoke screen leaks and dart throw reporting to make waves after a while

I just want to see our offseason plan come together. Curious to see what Griff and the FO schemed for roster building.

I'm glad you don't get paid to evaluate talent

Beginning to think KOC is simply throwing a bunch of rumors out there to see if one or two may hit. He seems all over the place right now.

I’m not saying he’s not, but I think the Pels leak about 10 teams was real. With that much interest there’s probably a lot of stray rumor signals floating around.

Pelicans get: Myles Turner and #6

Hawks get: Jrue Holiday

Pacers get: Kevin Huerter, Dwayne Dedmon and #13

Maybe this isn’t perfect on all sides, but it seems like this is close to a workable deal. Pels shave about $7.5 million off the books this year as well. I think all sides agree the Hawks would do Huerter, Dedmon and 6 for Jrue. I’m happy if we walk away with Turner and #6.

So the question becomes, what are the Pacers looking for? Dedmon could replace some Turner minutes, Huerter gives them a good young 2 guard if Dipo is gone, and they get a late lottery pick. Maybe they need more, I don’t know, but seems like something could be there.

I would rather Huerter than Turner. He’s vastly overrated.

I’m sure this is your typical, everyone talks about the Patriots so I don’t like them, everyone talks about the Lakers so I hate them etc. I can totally understand Myles Turner fatigue.

Turner had an ankle injury at the beginning of last season that really slowed him a bit. But the guy is just 24 years old, and he is a highly skilled, true big man and rim protector. I would like to see him rebound better, but some of that comes from playing with Sabonis and also being away from the rim as a court spreader.

2 seasons ago, he shot nearly 39% from three with 2.7 blocks a game. And he’s consistently been a mid 70’s Ft shooter. All that at 22 years old. The kid can play and would be a really strong complimentary piece.
