Sources: The Celtics have emerged as a potential destination for Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday. Boston could package its three firsts (14, 26, and 30) to move into the lottery and flip the pick to New Orleans. More details and rumors in my latest mock draft: LINK

The excerpt from the article:

quote:

The Celtics have offered up their three first-round picks (nos. 14, 26, and 30) in trades to try and move into the lottery, but multiple league sources say they intend to reroute that pick to the Pelicans in exchange for Jrue Holiday. If Boston is able to acquire the necessary assets, it’d still need to add salaries to make a deal work. Could that mean Gordon Hayward or Kemba Walker could be on the move? No matter the case, the Celtics are up to something big to try and bolster their title odds. If they keep the 14th pick, Hampton makes sense because he could immediately serve as a spark-plug scorer off the bench and provide long-term upside.

Everyone's said those picks won't get them very far into the lottery. So there better be more involved than the ~10th pick for Holiday.

With that said, this is good work by the Pelicans to create a bidding war.

If I'm the Knicks I take those 3 for #8 and give myself 3 shots at finding young talent.

Plus they could always use one of those later picks for Westbrick instead of sending 8.

I don’t believe it but at least it creates a more competitive bidding war

They certainly don’t have enough right now. They’d need a 3rd team to get involved

I don't believe this one either.
Why would the Celtics want Jrue? Smart is just as good a defender and cost half. Is Jrue going to take shots away from Tatum/Brown/Kemba? Oh and i'm not taking Kemba back. Don't want 4 years of him at $34M/yr

Maybe the Pacers? Seems like Hayward to the Pacers has been rumored for a while

Boston guy speculating

Adam Kaufman

It's possible the #Celtics flip picks and Kemba Walker to the #Pelicans for Jrue Holiday, and send Gordon Hayward to the #Pacers for a deal involving Myles Turner.

Boston could once again transform its roster pretty significantly after a run to the East Finals.

Celtics: Jrue

Pelicans: #7, #14, Rose, Smart, Kennard

Here come the Boston beat writers in a few minutes:

"The Boston Celtics, currently, do not see themselves as a destination for Jrue Holiday, as of now.

And at this point, putting JJ into any trade is ridiculous. He was a big part of the SVG hire, no way we will just ship him out.
