I'm ok with signing Josh Smith. I wanted the team to draft him, but he was selected 1 pick before ours (we drafted JR Smith). He has talent (defense, rebounding, passing), but his shot selection is awful. Maybe his time away from the NBA served as a wake-up call that he isn't a supreme offensive talent. I think he will produce more than Cunningham has.

He probably restored his confidence playing against lesser talent.

Wondering where new #Pelican Josh Smith has been?
Played w/Maccabi Haifa during @nba preseason tour & Sichuan Blue Whales in China Last Year

Even though Crawford came back from China with a much improved attitude his shot selection really wasn't different. He just got better at making bad shots.

I'm ok with this signing, as long as Smith agrees to be a hustle guy playing defense and grabbing boards. But if he comes in here thinking he will be the 2nd or even 3rd offensive option taking stupid shots. Then we are screwed

Don't understand the uproar. He will be gone once Rondo and Ajinca come back due to the medical hardship exception. This signing is nothing other than a body that has played in the NBA. I'm surprised Josh Smith even agreed to this

Assuming no one else gets hurt during that time. That is still 4-6 weeks of play. Anjica is suppsoed to be out 4-6 weeks, but with a newborn (Oct. 3) at home I think he will probably take closer to 6 weeks.

As to why Smith agreed, the attractive thing about the Pels roster spot is not the money, but the playing time/exposure. Any big wanting to get back in the league should want to come here because they will be guaranteed 10-15 minutes a night and there is a distinct possibility they have a significant role if one of the bigs (AD/DC/DC) gets hurt for real.

The wasted money is so frustrating at times like this where injuries hit. Someone like Thomas Robinson (who is playing in Russia) would have been a solid cheap bench big.

MM says the treatment he received is what you get when you have the arthritis in your knees.

Arthritis isn't an injury. either deal with it or retire.

Josh Smith with confidence means more 19 foot jumpers.

Wish both he and Asik could medically retire.
