Griff got lucky that Willie Green turned out to be a great coach.
Griff got lucky that Herb Jones turned out to be one of the top rookies in the draft.
Griff got lucky that Jose Alvarado became the consistent spark off the bench that the team needed.
Griff got lucky that the Lakers sucked and we got their pick, likely at #8.
Griff got lucky that he was able to trade for CJ at the deadline.
It was all just plain luck.

They’ve won many championships. I have no doubt they would trade that BSbubbleship to have all those assets back. What tards

99% of being an NBA GM is all about luck, but you can make your luck better by great scouting and making great trades, which they have done both this season.

And regardless the pick would have gone to Portland. He traded a 1st and 2 2nds to get Val, Nance and Graham, that's a great fricking trade no matter how you try to slice it
I’m cool with that, but since it didn’t, it’s costing us a future first now. No one is denying the CJ/Nance trade was great. Can’t recall one person not loving it.
But where are we at if Lillard doesn’t get hurt this year and they don’t decide to tear it down? Or Lebaby doesn’t decide to play GM and trade for Westbrook tearing thst team apart?
Like I said he’s had a lot of luck this year.

well, we made the Graham trade because Satoransky and Kira were the only PGs on the roster and CP3 and Lowry turned us down. We pretty much needed to get something.
Graham at least showed potential as a 3pt shooter but yeah, losing the 15th pick for him sucks.

Let’s also be clear how much sheer luck was involved for Griff lol. The dude definitely accidentally butt chugged a pile of four leaf clovers.
Cause it’s not just that Lowry/CP turned us down, Griff tried to throw top of the market, 22+ million at Hardaway Jr and Spencer Dinwiddie, and had either of them said yes, this team is probably staring down the barrel of Zion demanding out, BI demoralized, the team outside looking in, and Griff on his way out

Lakers fans are so ridiculously entitled that many will call for the league to overturn that and let the Lakers keep the pick. Would be amazing to see them melt

So many of you are whining about the fact that Griff is waisting some picks but you don’t give him enough credit for what he got for AD who basically said would only go to the lakers. He is making some mistakes but he is making a lot of great decisions and actually quickly corrects his mistakes. He said at the beginning that he wants to build a family like atmosphere and that’s exactly what we have now. To say that he is just lucky in all his great moves is really unfair and pretty dumb imo. I really like where this team is now and we still have A LOT of assets.

So, to recap: when he’s good, he’s lucky. And when he’s bad, he’s bad.
Even with Graham, the Pels hit a grand slam last offseason.

They finished 36-46. Monte was fired after going 45-37.

Shows why you had to have seen why Monty got fired. Nobody on this board was shocked when it happened, it was expected. And it’s not like it was out of left field.

Jaxson Hayes suddenly turning a corner in year 3 certainly helps this argument. His draft record looks much nicer.
As does flipping the other 2019 1st round draft pick NAW for CJ/Nance, when let's be honest NAW still wasn't panning all the way out

Crew poo poo. That elementary response is better than yours

1. Demps fired Monte, not Griff
2. Montes big mistake (of which there were several ( was bringing in an offensive coach to establish culture. On paper it wasn't a bad move
3. Griff made some mistakes early, but to his credit, he was quick to bite the bullet and move on

This is 100% the truth. Last night I may have even told you he thought Herb could eventually be this, but if that was the case I don’t think they would have sat around at 35 and waited to pick him.

Monty was fired 7 years ago
You are also comparing mountains to molehills if you're comparing this season to that one.

I mean Griff’s been bluntly honest in saying he never imagined this out of Herb. Was in shock that Willie told him he would start.
Griff still deserves credit for recognizing the BPA’s at every spot and taking them though. His drafting has been a 180 from his first couple seasons. Truly, and arguably, the best draft for any team this year. And I still stand by saying Trey Murphy is the best first round pick Griff has made outside Zion.
But to dismiss the luck is to also try and retcon history as well.
For instance, he didn’t have Willie as his first choice, he had Jacques Vaughn. We don’t get Willie unless Vaughn turns the offer down. Just like we don’t have a shot at CJ if he signs Hardaway Jr. or Spencer Dinwiddie to that 22 million dollar deal he was trying to hand every second and third tier free agent.
Now, if we can get just a little bit more luck with lottery balls, this team has the makings of a true contender for years to come if we hit on this next draft pick.
