Probably because that's the only way 85% of New Orleans can actually watch the Pels, as I understand it.

That's talking about for the season though. That means this "football town" watches a lot of basketball. To me the negative implication is there are more front running west bankers than we realized.

I've said it for over a decade, if this franchise can begin to consistently compete for chips, we will see this "football" city turn into healthy NBA city as well.
All those West Bankers and such will suddenly become lifelong Pels fans

What is it that draws Westbankers to be such bandwaggoners?

The NBA has been trying to kill the idea of “being a fan of a team” for like 2 decades. That hurts small markets more than the big ones. It hurts everyone though.
But if NOLA is gonna be filled with people who root for other teams, don’t go to games, and the local governments are going to create a non ideal situation, its not unfair to ask the question if NOLA deserves a team. Because it’s not holding up it’s end of the bargain.

If you read the article this tweet is based on, it also shows a list of top rated markets for ESPN/ABC in the 2018-19 season. New Orleans was 3rd back then.

Right. Poor markets who don’t go to games.
I would love a radical plan of offering borderline free tickets and just make that place fricking rock. Ingratiate a whole generation of fans.
That’s how teams like the Celts built generations of loyalty (along with winning, I know). People use to have prime season tickets with their factory and shipyard jobs.
The loud games with an empty lower bowl is the dumbest fricking thing in sports. They refuse to price those correctly. And by that I mean…..at an amount that people will buy.
Now knowing NOLA, you make the tickets too inexpensive, you will have literal murders during games.

Winning helps a lot. This team is FUN as hell and I think people are catching on.
If they go 2-1 in their next brutal 3, and 1 of those is Jazz at home...you're going to see some real fan support down the stretch.
Especially with the mask mandate gone and the vax mandate not far behind.

NOLA has always been a rating bonanza for their teams. We fricking follow our shite. That’s why it’s good business for the NBA for us to be relevant.
Go look at the data after we won the SB, lol. Fans gravitated to us.

I saw a tweet that said most of the lower bowl tickets have been sold out already for next season.
I agree though, the pricing on those seats are still way too high. There's no reason I should have to pay $150+ for a lower bowl ticket for a team that is 10 games under .500 still. $80-100 max, at least until this team starts winning consistently.

Anyone who says we don't turn out for basketball has to be under the age of 20 and doesn't remember when we had a great fun team around 2008, we had one of the loudest and best home courts in the league.

Tickets literally have been $3 on seat geek and over half the games, you could sit downstairs for $30-40. Get outta here with this bullshite.

Dallas series in 2008 was absolutely insane and if we would’ve taken Game 3 vs GSW.

In 2008?
That was the San Antonio Spurs in the 2nd round, not GSW.

New Orleans is always one of the highest markets in terms of viewership, it's really weird.

Build enough buzz and the arena will rock.
As a kid I was there for 60k plus in the Dome for LSU vs Georgetown.

i went to an eatery on the West Bank a few weeks ago... they have jerseys from the big high school teams on the wall, like such places do when they proclaim to be "local"
they had one for Archbishop Shaw, one for John Ehret, one for West Jefferson, one for Helen Cox...
and one for John Curtis

Was it Moe's Pizza? If so the owner graduated from Curtis and played football there.

Okay that "Westbanker" stuff is bs. I grew up on the Westbank and many of my friends and family and I have been supporting the NBA New Orleans teams since the days of Pete Maravich and the Jazz! The Westbank has no more "bandwagon" fans than NOLA, Metairie or Kenner-bruh!
