Wanted Justice Winslow

Keep an eye on the Westbrook trade, if Miami goes after him it may be another opportunity for Griff to chase Winslow

Winslow is making $13m.

Moore for Winslow is a legal trade (outgoing salary + $5m) but likely not to be accepted without picks being involved.

Depends

If OKC sends Westbrook to Miami in exchange for Dragic, Winslow another piece and removing protections from the pick, they may be willing to divert Winslow for Moore and Wood to get them under the tax line

2nd comment on that twitter made it look like there actually was a trade involving Westbrook, Winslow, Moore, etc.

Would be adding even more athleticism to what is already the most athletic team in the league.

Crewz mentioned on twitter this morning that we had brief talks about being the third team in the Miami/OKC deal for Westbrook, but ultimately the talks didn’t go anywhere.

The current rumors out there are that the teams in a trade are Miami, OKC, and Cleveland, with JR Smith’s grandfathered contract probably being sent to OKC to save money.

Toss in the protected 1st from Cleveland as well.

Terrific defender, solid facilitator, solid 3 pt shooter, Swiss-Army-Knife PG in a Wing's body, team-first/effort-guy and Duke product.

Yep, he meets all the Griff criteria.

What kind of contract would the Pels take on or would have taken on, for a backup-but-capable-of-starting/insurance PG?

EDT: teke said $13M

I have hard time believing that Griffin flat out said in an interview that he "wanted to trade for Justice Winslow".

that would be flat out tampering and he is usually good about that sort of thing.

Hes under team control for 3 years at 13m. Would be a great move depending on compensation.

Couple thoughts.

- He's one of those guys that feels like he has been in the league a lot longer than he has, but he is only 22.

- Partially because it feels like people have been talking about his potential forever...And it looks like he is finally inching toward it.

- Would love to get him if the price is right. Would be good Ingram insurance as well tbh. Because I do worry going into next years market getting into a Demps style situation where Ingram maybe didn't live up to his inflated market price, but letting him walk leaves you pretty barren at a major position. Would be nice to have a "next guy up" insurance policy in our pockets.

We’ve got a gluttony of young assets, but I’m not sure if the Heat are interesting in getting young pieces in return. They are obviously still in win now mode, so I think it would be tough to get him.

I think Moore and a first for Winslow would probably be enough. It relieves them of some salary with moore expiring and gives them a much needed first after trading away a few. And gives us a young but veteran wing on a reasonable deal coming off his best year. Hes been known to be a good defender, but his 3 point % has improved dramatically the last 2 years, averaging right at 38% and has shown the ability to be a playmaker and initiate the offense. In my mind you can never have too many guys that can pass. And if he can be a threat as a spot up 3 and D Wing with point forward potential... you let go of one of your multiple first round picks, and a second or cash considerations if need be. Our young depth would be so unbelievable to add a guy like winslow making 13 mil a year, and if he dont work out would be an easy move and could probably find a team to give you close to what you give up for him.

Judging from his account, it's a Heat beat writer

I don't know enough about Winslow. Someone compare him to Ingram for me.

Because what we could do is give up a first-round pick to get Winslow, and then if Ingram plays well, get one back by shipping him to a contender who needs SF help.

We essentially use Moore to facilitate a SF swap that saves us a ton of money and cap space by avoiding the need to pay Ingram a ton of money next year.
