Tyrone Lue, Atkinson, Udoka. My favorite candidates are the ones players talk up the most.

Someone hasn't been paying attention to the fan fare for Green, even from coaches and opposing players

I’m well aware bunchy, and he’s in the group I’m fine with

I don’t think saying that he became a league wide HC candidate a few weeks ago is speaking ill of the possible hire. Or that CP3 is largely responsible for that team’s turnaround. No one is talking about Green if the suns aren’t making a finals run. Just Dan Craig last year and the guy from Toronto the year before

McNamara was the first person to even mention Willie green as a possible NBA HC, and he was talking 3-4 years down the line. This was 6/18.

Not sure why y’all are so defensive, that is just a fact, not talking shite

Does the flukey championship run assistant hire ever work out?

Too lazy to look it up. But hard to be inspired about ex-player coaches or assistant coaches ona fluke hot streak.

Neither ever seem to work out.

The suns are in the finals because of CP3, Devin Booker, and Ayton.

Not willie Green.

Feels like a grasping at straws hire.

Kerr was talking about him being a future HC in 2016

I don't think chris paul is the only reason for that team's turnaround.

They have the absolute perfect pieces around him and a great bench.

They went 8-0 in the bubble without him.

Some of these games they haven't even needed paul.

No pal I’m talking this coaching cycle. As the Suns advanced, Green’s name kept gaining more steam

Pre Nuggets sweep, nothing. Other candidates are being floated, guys are fired, candidates interviewed etc. Willie isn’t on the radar

6/18 suns sweeps nuggs, mcnamara mentions green as a future HC in the league. No source or anything, but something begins to brew here bc..

6/30 suns finish Clippers 4-2, Ingram and Langdon spotted at Suns game (Ingram lives in PHO*).. comes out now Green has 3 HC interviews lined up

Now suns go up quick on Bucks, Green is leading man for a job

All’s I’m saying is, if the guy was an assistant with the pistons he’s not getting a call. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad coach, he’s obviously held in high regard by players and has been an assistant on some great teams. He obviously has some juice

So the Pelicans aren't interested in Green until McNamara put him on the radar? He owes McNamara a couple bucks once he's hired then.

You ever think that maybe he got on McNamara’s radar because he was already being talked about in league circles?

Wait. So you just ignored anything prior to this year?

The Pelicans went thru a huge coaching search last year and his name was never brought up once. It’s ok to say he is riding his teams succeed

This is only Green's 5th year of coaching. He'll be the league's 3rd-youngest coach. It's not a surprise that he wasn't discussed last year.

Sure. I’m just following the breadcrumbs here with regards to the conversation. His profile has been elevated recently cause of the Suns success

Of course he was being talked about. It’s not like he is some guy off the street. Talked about enough to mentioned by MM as being a possible HC in 3-4 years. But being talked about isn’t being a candidate for HC positions.

You followed the timeline and the names that came out after SVG was canned. Are you saying the suns recent success isn’t fueling the Green rocket ship?

In 2016 Steve Kerr predicted Willie’s head coaching candidacy in June 2021

I am somewhat neutral on Willie, leaning positive. I don't have enough info on him to go hardcore in either direction but I do like what I have heard about him.

I think for McNamara to have the opinion he did a few weeks back means he heard chatter that trickled its way down to him from league circles. And if it trickled its way down to him, that means he was probably very high on a lot of team's radars. In a year he is probably the guy that every team is interviewing. He just happened to break through a year early.

And yeah, obviously the Suns run has something to do with, its foolish to think otherwise. But the way Lester presents it, its supposed to take something away from him. It doesn't necessarily do that.

Maybe, but how do you know whether his name came up or not during the search?
