New Orleans Pelicans

New head coach: The Pelicans are planning to hire Suns assistant Willie Green as their new head coach, sources said. New Orleans and Green, who is still coaching in the NBA Finals, are working through the final stages of the process, sources said. Green, 39, played 12 NBA seasons and has developed a strong reputation as an assistant in five seasons with the Suns and Warriors, including being part of Golden State’s championships in 2017 and 2018.

This is the Pels related piece of the article, basically re-iterating what he tweeted yesterday.

That's what I figured. It's practically a done deal or Woj and Shams wouldn't have said what they've said already, but this didn't seem like new info.

It means its done but they don't want to officially announce until after the Finals are done.

He's likely putting his Assistant Coach staff together already (and likely has been doing so for several days).

This seems to be it. I doubt Paul is making shite up, so Willie is definitely telling people that he's the choice at HC.

Kind of like the last time we hired an assistant coming off a title run...

Cam Johnson talking about Willie on NBA radio, said he's a great person as well as a great coach. There was times this season when Willie ran the practices.

Yeah but Gentry already failed miserably as a head coach. Green is more of an unknown in a positive way.

you could "run" the Suns defense too when your HC is a defensive guy

Suns coach Monty Williams was quick to give the bulk of the credit for their defensive success to assistant coach Willie Green, Phoenix’s defensive coordinator, for their schemes and game plan in each series. “Willie Green has led that charge,” Williams said. “He’s run the defense all season long.”

Is green a candidate if the Suns did not make this run?

Considering he became a HC candidate 3 weeks ago, I’d say no

Call it the CP3 effect. Team goes from winning 34 games to 51 once he enters the picture

Out of curiosity, who were you hoping we’d hire last season when we went with SVG?
