Giannis and the Bucks barring a miracle won't be a contender for long with that being the bulk of the supporting cast and salary cap.
Do you really think any team that features Giannis doesn't make the playoffs for the next 5ish years? Especially in the weak East...

Huerter and Haliburton Would be Pelicans Right now
Nobody wanted Haliburton more than me that draft and it was widely reported if he slipped to us the next pick Griff was shipping him off. Apparently Griff didn’t think much of him.

Our draft picks besides Trey and Herb have fricking sucked. Sure it would be nice to have better picks but we don’t do shite with them anyway.
Should have traded them

Giannis would have to carry the team in those years with what would have to be the oldest supporting cast of starters in the league + he would have to stay healthy
I just think the Pels are still in a solid place for assets. Them getting Dame hurt the immediate picks for obvious reasons but the chest still has upside.

You think he's falling off a cliff? In 5 years he's probably still a top 10-15 player. His game is going to age pretty well and he will probably transition more to a pure Center. I could see him finishing like Duncan. He will just need complimentary pieces for the team to be competitive.
All this to say a team featuring Giannis should never be a lottery team. Which is all that matters when it comes to the pick. A late 1st is still as asset, just not a great one.

No great player has ever had bad teams. No great player has ever been injured. No great player has ever asked to be traded when his team started falling apart.

I dont know the nba has been trending with older players playing as good or better in their older years.
(Lebron 39, KD 35, Steph 35) Giannis would still be in his prime and always stayed healthy. We worry about dames age but steph is 35 and still killing it and their games are very similar. If anything, not having to carry the load may help Dame. I agree Middleton and Lopez might age out- but not the end of the world wheh your core is still Giannis and Dame. In regards to the pelicans, hate to say it might hurt the picks but in the grand scheme not a huge deal.

Yeah according to Mac
Let me rephrase that. If I was GM of the Pels, we’d have Haliburton right now and maybe even Maxey as well assuming we kept the 13th pick off the table in the Atlanta trade.
We ready know the Atlanta trade rumors were probably real considering they got Dejounte Murray to fill that same role after Jrue was off the table for them.

According to Mac and the decisions he would make he thinks he would be 3 time world champ and gm of the year. Easy to say that now when both guys have exploded into great talents and potential stars lol

To be fair, a ton of us were wanting both Tyrese’s pre draft
It’s not a hindsight is 20/20 deal. I’m not great at searching up old threads, but there was quite a few Hali, Maxey, Bane lovers (what we didn’t do w the draft) and Kira and Steven Adams (what we did with the draft) haters on the board.
Griff and Co fricked up massively and it’s okay to admit it

Its also ok to admit that the massive mistake you speak about isn’t that massive in the grand scheme of things. Teams miss on players all the time. Warriors missed on Wiseman, all the other teams missed on Maxey, Bane as well. The key is to build a competitive team regardless of the misses. Which I think Griffin has despite our health issues. Im not a huge Griffin fan but to say missing on Kira is a massive mistake because we could have had Maxey, Bane is a little extreme.

We had pick 25 that year and the entire board wanted Bane. And instead the Pels used it in some roundabout weird way to get Steven Adams.

Yes it was a mistake b/c it was a high risk pick.
Taking an undersized pg was such a risky and dumb pick. It had such a low chance of working out based on the history of guys drafted Kira’s size. Maxey weighs 30 lbs more than Kira and both are about 6’2”.
Griff was an idiot and enamored with the fact that Kira played two years in college and was still one of the youngest guys in the draft, so he assumed he had more potential b/c of that.
He chose Jaxson for similar dumb reasons despite the fact that young bigs with no offense drafted in the top 10 are almost always busts. It was a stupid risky pick.
Many wanted Maxey instead of Kira, and many wanted to get Bane somehow in the late 1sts.
There are many people that could do a better job than Griff when it comes to the draft as well as trades. He sucks. Always has.

We pick way better outside of the lottery .. hope somehow our MIL firsts turn into early 2nds

Griff
If the rumors are true, recent draft has been Langdon and not Griff. That makes the lost sense and how we landed on tm3, herb, Jose, and even Dyson. Hawkins tbd - still think the aim was lively

So we should let the entire board draft then?
Jonas is a big part if our team; Adams is often injured and didn’t fit.
shite happens but to constantly complain about misses and then not talk about the hits is such BS.
Did this whole board want Trey Murphy and Herb Jones? How many on this board wanted some random other guys who play like shite. You can’t hit every draft. I don’t get why this is so hard for people to understand??

I never said it wasn’t a mistake on Kira. I said it wasn’t a MASSIVE mistake like some of the people on this board make it seem especially in the grabd scheme of building a contender.
Yeah this board thinks it can do everything better than a NBA GM. Im sure they knew about how good Murphy was and Herb would be too? I love how people on this board are like we all wanted to draft the guy who became really good but the same board is quiet about the guys they were dead wrong on. But what do I know, again you think this board can draft better than a NBA GM.

That year in particular most people on this board liked Halliburton, but he wasn’t available.
Most people liked Maxey.
Lots of people talked about Bane as a great choice late in the 1st.
It’s not like it was 1 or 2 people saying all of that. It was pretty consensus.
No one was saying we should draft Kira. Not that people thought he would be a bust, just simply that no one was really saying that’s who they wanted.
There were lots of different opinions on who to take at 4. Culver, Garland, Hunter. No one was asking for Jaxson, who is who Griff wanted at 4 and figured he could get him at 8.
Griff seems to have this dumb philosophy on how to draft, and it doesn’t work well, and it’s a bit obvious he’s leaning on others a lot more in the last 3 drafts, as the picks have been drastically different.

I think strategy has shifted tge last three drafts and they just stopped trying to hit home runs and instead went after solid players, although it seems like Trey and Herb were home runs, nobody expected this level of play from them.

I guess heres what I don’t get. Again I’m not a Griff fan but if you’re going to sit here and argue about the bad picks he made- why are we not giving him credit for Trey and Herb- the same picks made under his management as well? The impact that Herb and Trey have made, especially when they were picked is phenomenal. Yes I know Zion was the easy pick. He’s missed on Kira, Naw and Jax. Hes hit on Herb and Trey. He also found Naji and Jose basically off the street. Hawkins, Dyson and EJ are TBD. He missed on 3 but also hit big time on 3 (4 if you count Naji). Thats not horrible. Its honestly not bad, considering how bad some GMs are in drafting. Yes he gets credit for Jose and Naji- cause he signed and developed them in our program as rcs. I just think people need to look overall at how hes done and not just concentrate on the misses. Every NBA team misses on draft picks and still can win championships and be competitive. At the end, thats the only goal.
