. But you gotta pull the trigger for a guy like CJ imo.

He better be a fricking all star level player for statements like this.

We don’t really need the picks this year or next.

I'd say that's the expectation, no?

Bill Simmons scheduling an emergency pod to bury the Pels no matter what the final deal is:

quote:

don’t get the rumored CJ trade for Nola if Josh Hart is in it. Makes zero sense. Josh Hart is a winning player. I’d rather have Hart for 12m than CJ for 30m. (And I like CJ.) And NO would be throwing in picks too??? This is bad

ETA: clearly demonstrating he hasn’t watched a game all year, he can’t believe we gave up NAW

quote:

Jesus — even without including draft picks NO lost this trade. NAW has potential. If there’s a good pick/good picks in this thing it’s an all-out panic trade by NO

You are trading 4 quarters for a dollar ... since we are usually on the other side of these type of deals, it is nice for once to be getting the best player.

Also Bill Simmons:

"Pelicans haven't done anything to put talent around Zion. They have been in need of a lead guard his entire career and never pulled the trigger on a trade for a talented sniper."

Then why hasn’t he been on a winning team?

How does the board think CJ's game will age?

A lot rides on his health.

There's a historical risk with undersized guards aging rapidly after 30, and McCollum has injury concerns(ankle injury, collapsed lung, and back injuries in the last three seasons), but also plenty of guys that played to 33-35 at a pretty high level.

Which is why I hope we didnt give up too much in draft comp. There's both the contract and real concern with aging and you might need those assets to move CJ/upgrade if a worst case happens

While that's true, I'd much rather give his minutes to Herb who is already better than Hart in some ways.

And its already starting...

National media about to tell us how incredible Josh Hart is, how great a prospect NAW is, and why the Pelicans should have kept a roster together that they did nothing but shite on, when they bothered even discussing us.

100% not true but fun conspiracy theory: Fat Zion went to Portland and convinced CJ this was the place to be.

I know tampering and what not. I just want to believe Zion wants to be here.

They'll shut up when CJ/Zion/BI/Herb/JV knock the Lakers out of the Play In.

If Zion doesn't want to be here with CJ, BI, and some young promising talent to fill in the supporting roles. Then we had no shot to begin with
