99%.
He loves having his family close and he thinks being paired up with AD could take him to a championship.
This isn’t me talking, but someone who is close to him.

I think it's a high percentage. He gets to play the way he wants. I don't think he'd get that freedom anywhere else. He knows we are only a player or 2 away from making a run so I think he's happy here.

quote:Not sure that is what he said. I think he said he would not sign an extension. Also, he would lose more money signing elsewhere instead of here.
We have been over this and I don't understand how you don't get it. His agent said do not trade for my guy, cause you are killing his contract. If you trade for him, we will not re-sign with you and we will leave in FA. He told every team in the league that. But, NO trades for him anyway. Why wouldn't that agent be true to his word? Cousins already lost the contract he wanted. Why wouldn't he go where he wants and play for the best possible situation. NO has no leverage at all..

I refuse to answer on the grounds it might incriminate me.
You are not being accused of a crime,
ANSWER!
Well, I look at the logjam, for a playoff spot, with 5 or 6 teams tied or a half game out and I see the Okie Thunder bringing up the rear.
If the Pelicans do not make the playoffs Mr Cousins will move on.
Rondo will help.
So maybe 7th or 8th.
There are a couple of great teams in the conference.
Suppose Pelicans face Harden or The Warriors?
first round exit, buh bye Cousins.
Win even one round, 90% stays.
1. Make playoffs
2. Lucky seed face San Antonio.
I don't see a 2nd round for the Pelicans against the Bay Bombers or Houston.

This team is already solid and should be much better with Rondo and Hill. I don’t think leaving puts him in much of a better situation. He ain’t going anywhere and teaming up with someone more talented than AD. Playing with stars is all that matters in the NBA.
He should take the money and stay close to home.

This team is far away from being solid. The teams is in salary cap hell with around $93M committed for next season without DMC.
I think the team would have to go to WCF for Cousins to stay.

You are greatly underestimating how much just a little success means to players that have been on bad teams their whole careers. When the Monty Pels beat the Spurs to sneak into the playoffs on a tie breaker this team of guys that had never won anything acted like they had just earned rings. Remember that Cousins has never been on a team that's gotten to even 35 wins. If you get to the playoffs I think Cousins will be the happiest he's ever been as a pro and it's a 100% lock that he resigns.

This board is full tilt delusional. Suposedly he is a top 5 FA, which means every major team will be after him and the guy lives/trains in LA. But guys are saying he looks happy, or we can give him more money, he will never play with another star bigger/better than Davis. The Lakers will be adding George or Lebron this summer. Think Cousins wouldn't rather join one of them? The Spurs, Rockets, Mavs and Clips all have room to go after him as well. But guys are giving over 50% chances he stays? He won't even discuss it, he knows he's gone..

quote:So you're saying more money doesn't matter, yet you said that the reason he would not extend was because he wanted more money from the Kings. Which is it? Why would he want to stay long term with the Kings for more money but not want to stay with AD and the Pels for more money than others can offer him? Being close to home and family does not matter either? Who is being delusional?

Let me make sure I got this right. He wants to stay in NO for the following reasons..
1. It is the closest geographical NBA city to South Alabama.
2. He can sign the biggest contract here.
3. The team is decent and could make the playoffs.
4. He has a lot of freedom and can play the style he likes.
5. We have a few friends of his on the team.
Am I missing any?

He was content staying in SAC losing 50 games and year and getting paid. If he was content in that shite situation with no general direction and poor ownership/FO, you dont think he would take the money here, where at least he has AD and is back down south?
Is winning even his first priority? Or taking the most money and playing in a spot where he isnt reeled in on offense?

He and AD are an elite duo and he’d make more money staying here. I’d say it’s very likely he stays.
Team needs to get out of this Asik contract to become a good team, though.

I would say hes currently most likely to sign a 3 yr deal with Pels, that way hes a FA same time as Davis.
Posted on 11/6/17 at 12:55 pm to LSU4ever2002
I would agree -- technically a 2+1. But yes, he does that. Lines up with Davis and also gets the extra bump for being a ten year vet in his next contract negotiation.

I am trying to be logical about this. You guys seriously keep bringing up Geography as one of his motivating factors. The only major NBA star that I have ever heard of using that as a factor was Lebron James and he is about to bolt again. That just doesn't matter. If it did, all the Southern teams wouldn't suck so much at basketball.
I don't think people understand the money part either. NO cost him 30M. It is their fault and its money he can't get back. Do you think he is going to forget that or let it go?
16 out of 30 NBA teams make the playoffs every year. He can go wherever he wants and have more success than he will have here or in Sac. Thats just a fact.
