Shell’s logic is spot on and I’ve been saying the same thing for years.
I always hear “win first”
Personally I don’t want a bandwagon fanbase.
If fans aren’t attracted to the product “we” (and I’m one of the we) have right now, then no we don’t deserve a franchise.
This team has been here nearly 20 years now. Longer than the Jazz, this is THE New Orleans basketball franchise, & for the third time, we have had an all nba mvp caliber player on the court(maybe 2 of them) with the most talented and likable bunch we ever had.
It will be worth it for season ticket holders, if they sell some games.
But damn it, keep the beer garden.

The “we” should go both ways.
Charge new buyers the new rates. Reward the loyal season ticket holders with a more moderate increase. These bumps are significant for a lot of people that I’ve talked to. Day 1 Hornets fans that started as students pooling their spare cash. Don’t care about price per ticket.
JMO...Saints season ticket holder but not Pels.

Your argument is making less and less sense with each post.
I honestly have no clue what you're trying to say.

defending this ridiculous increase for a team that is ten games below .500

oh gosh! thanks for explaining, mister! I get it now!

That's not really the point.
The Arena had like 6,000-7,000 people Thursday night against the 6-seed in the West.
The entire lower bowl was packed. The premium uppers were there. It is the seats they are jacking up prices on that are typically empty. They are empty because at $8/ticket, people don’t think twice about skipping.

It seems like the huge % increases are in seats that were substantially underpriced relative to the rest of the league (sub-$500 tickets).
As they should be in this market.
Otherwise people are not going to buy season tickets. The Saints proved that. And this is a football city.
I wouldn’t be surprised if thru back off of this, and very soon.

That’s bullshite
The Saints didn’t have a waiting list for years. They got fans to the game with cheap tickets. Then they started winning. Key word there, winning. The ticket base grew exponentially
You are going to sit here and tell me people need to be attracted to the product right now for future growth?
Look the Pels & hornets have had let down after let down in New Orleans. Fans have every reason to proceed with caution.
We’ve been duped into coming out to “see a player” (AD) year after year. You need to win, and currently you sit 11th in the western conference.
Raising prices like this is idiotic. Grow your product, then justify a price increase. Bet on yourself, don’t make the blue collar fan bet on that. Too much money is at steak for what is a poor city that has been screwed over and over by this franchise

They are only raising prices on the cheapest of seats. They track attendance and those sections of seats are the least used in the arena. They would make as much or more by selling individual tickets at rock bottom prices or giving them away to people who will attend the games for the STH’s who don’t renew.
It sucks for the handful of people who can’t afford the increase and have been around forever and actually attend the games. But those are few and far between in those sections.

So only season ticket holder can claim to be part of the "we"?

Judging by the testimonials in the article, the new model is affecting more than just the cheap seats.
I think it’s inevitable the number of holder’s go down, and imo that’s more important than making more money right now. Because you might never get those customers back. Build your brand, expand your model. The demand simply isn’t there to do this. Especially considering the fickleness of this market.

I gave up on specific expectations for any given season . Things are just too fluid with the team and the league.

It just seemed odd to have an outsider use the team "we" when saying we do not deserve a franchise.
Hypothetically, If you're a lifelong Pels fan and had season tickets for 10 years, then you find a new job halfway across the country, does that now mean you're an outsider? Of course not.
quote:I think that's pretty absurd, see my example above to show why.

But we can agree to disagree.

No one is complaining about an 8% increase when prices have been relatively stagnant in price for years and after the organization just made huge investments in the product.
What perks are you griping about? The beer garden? Most STH’s don’t use the beer garden and wanted more money on concessions/team store.
Paper tickets? They are trying to migrate everyone to seat geek. Not sure why anyone cares about paper tickets.

quote:Beer garden and the discount card. The discount card was the only perk whereby longer time ticket holders were rewarded with an extra 5% discount. The additional money on the concession card is solely tied to dollars spent and does not make up for the benefits lost with the loss of the discount card. Even the token annual season ticket holder "gifts" over the years have declined to almost "dollar store" levels.
