Looks like Dragic is available for the taking if the Pelicans want him. The Mavs have bowed out of trading for him.

We keep going in circles so I'll bow out shortly, but I'll make this last point/question:
You keep saying "someone could have signed him and made them match" over and over again, but in the same breath you'll say how seldom anyone ever sends over a 1st in a S&T.
I tried looking it up but I can't find any great resource about how many times in recent years a RFA has actually signed an offer sheet and wasn't part of a S&T instead. Because I can't really think of any.
Please point me in the right direction because to me it seems almost as seldom done as trading a 1st.
Grant was a RFA. He was traded pretty much for nothing, the 57th pick and some cash, just so Denver could get the TPE.
Lonzo was a RFA. a 2nd was traded.
Bogdonavich was a RFA. signed with ATL, gave up nothing. The Bucks had to give up something to get him b/c they didn't have cap space, even though that didn't work out.
KCP was a RFA and signed a 1 year over pay with LA 4 years ago, wasn't a S&T, no one really wanted him.
Brogdon was a RFA, Indy gave up a 1st and 2 2nds for him.
Most of the time, when a player likes who he's playing for, and the team likes him, he doesn't hit RFA b/c they sign him to an extension before it. When a team doesn't sign a guy to an extension and lets him hit RFA, it pretty much means that they aren't really in love with the guy, and probably won't resign him, b/c if they really wanted to, they would have already. Even if they do let them hit RFA in special cases, like we did with BI, we locked him up immediately once FA started. We didn't let him hit the market and let the market dictate his price. we paid him what he wanted.
When is the last time a team let someone get an offer sheet in RFA and matched it? The Hornets with EG? it doesn't happen often b/c teams that let guys hit RFA don't want that guy usually, or they aren't willing to pay what the market is going to pay him.

These are multi-million dollar business decisions, in some cases $50 million plus. We see it every year, it takes deadlines to get one side or the other to budge and make something happen. Griff isn't just balled up in a corner saying "what went wrong", he's in a staring contest, probably with multiple teams.
I think the fact that we haven't heard much about Hart says potential deals aren't dead. Hart would have either been S&Ted somewhere or resigned with the Pels by now if Griff knew he wasn't going to use him in a trade or didn't want to keep him.

You think that's what matters to a guy that is likely to get one big contract in his life? Don't be ridiculous. He's taking the biggest contract he can get, just like anyone in his position would do, and we offered the biggest contract.

Thanks, so you seem to agree. Going to a team that claims they're going to match and saying "Prove it." happens just as seldom as sending a 1st for a RFA.

come on... you know exactly what he's doing
1. "I have it on good authority that Boston will trade a king's ransom for AD."
2. "Boston will almost certainly make the best offer for AD"
3. "Boston is the front runner, but watch for the Lakers"
4. "The Lakers always had a better offer than Boston"
5. "Boston likely was never interested in AD because blah blah blah"
6. "You guys need to educate yourselves.. I'm not going to keep explaining to you how I told you all along that AD was going to the Lakers"

It is kind of odd that we've heard nothing on Hart. How long do RFAs typically sit on the market before getting an offer?
How many teams can even afford him at this point?

well we want to resign him, and he'll get a contract just over the MLE, so we should just be waiting to see what team gives us that 1st round pick so they can sign him.
RFA's that are sought after don't hit free agency, and when they do, they are signed quickly. When they take forever to get signed, it's usually b/c they think they are worth more than they are, or that they simply aren't that good and no one is giving them more than MLE money.

Guys like Hart often don't get many offers because that's the way the RFA system was designed.
You go in quick with a S&T like when Demps traded Ayon of Ryan Anderson, or you stay away because tying up $10-$15 million of your cap space on a rotation player with a hostile bid isn't done since it keeps you from going after the bigger fish.
I don't know if Hart wants to leave or not, but he's never had much of a choice other than to wait and see what Griff is going to do with him.

So that's how it works, huh? Only money matters? Then I guess I will go buy a Tim Hardaway Jr Pelicans jersey.

one more time for ya bud.
Tim Hardaway Jr has made almost $100M in his career. He came from money before he even entered the NBA. His decision to give up a few million to be happy is a lot easier.
Devonte Graham has made $4M in his nba career, and the likelihood of him signing another contract like this is pretty slim. This is the most important decision of his life, and where he will make the most money he'll ever make.
Yes that's how it works. For this contract for Graham in his situation, only money matters.

There isn’t one. We are likely pretty much done.
