no way he is getting anything near current value as a UFA. None.
he not throwing 47MM dollars away. He will have to opt in to have any chance of being traded

Literally just John Wall from Houston. Idk who else would take Westbrook.
Also Wall is a Klutch client

With the Klutch/Lakers front office power struggle they've got going on I wonder if they will even pull that off, especially since Houston will insist on getting a 1st back.

maybe more than that one first.
they’ve got the lakers bent over in the weight room at oz right now

I can see SGA being a target. Would they mortgage 27, 29 and 28 swap for him tho?

Right, but if Pelinka were going to make that trade, he'd have done it this season, right?
So, I don't think it will happen. I think Westbrook plays for the Lakers again next season. I just don't get how Jovan Buha, who is the Lakers beat writer at The Athletic, thinks that Westbrook is going to get moved.
Would they stretch him just to get rid of him? That seems nuts, because I don't think that frees up any cap for them.

Maybe so but one guy was playing this year and the other wasn’t.

OKC can get picks and a player that's useful for SGA.
Simmons threw out Philly salary dumping Tobias Harris, which would get them off paying him 39 mil in 23-24. Him and Danny Green would work numbers wise but they'd be just as bad once Lebron or AD went down because Tobias will come up small.

We could beat that easily

Are they holding Presti’s entire family at gunpoint?
28 teams could beat that.
What players are they sending for salary matching?

it begins
per stein

One source close to the situation said Tuesday that LeBron was likely to continue sitting — no matter what that did to his scoring title chances — if the Lakers were eliminated from play-in consideration. We’ll soon see if that stance holds.

I think if they stretch him, the cap hit is spread over 5-7 years. So yea it would free up space. They were still paying for Luol Deng after stretching him years ago. He may have just finally come off the books.

Stretch = 2 x remaining years on the contract + 1
If they waive him before the new league year, that is $47m / 5 for 5 seasons or almost $9m.
Across 3 seasons is $16m and change per season.
Huge chunk of change for a team in cap and tax trouble.

Would pretty much have to be John Wall, right?
Really wish teams would stop bailing them out of these stupid decisions

They'd get the worst pick but I'd imagine it could still be traded, no?

Nope. Only once it’s conveyed, I believe.

Cool. 2027 1st, Toní, and the Laker name for Devonte Graham and Bronny’s rights.

In theory that could trade a pick that has a swap right on it I think but because they owe us 2022 and 2024 they can’t trade 2023.
After the draft maybe they can (although it’s still subject to the swap). I don’t know how the possible pick deferment from 24 to 25 works with the Stepien Rule.
