I will never understand the Stepien Rule.

Teams should be allowed to make bad decisions if they want.

Stepien rule is that you can’t trade consecutive future firsts.

The workarounds are -

1. Buy someone else’s first so you have one on paper, allowing you to trade your own.

2. Strike a deal to be executed on draft night after the selection is made. Once the selection is made, it doesn’t matter if the player is shipped out with regards to Stepien.

The rule is named after the failed owner of the Cavs who traded so many future firsts that it damn near killed the franchise between poor play and an inability to find someone willing to buy them with no draft picks available.

That team went years withou a first because he kept trading future firsts for middling players because he was a micromanaging idiot.

Read up on what Ted Stepien did. It was so bad the NBA had fo allow the cavs to buy picks.

It’s to preserve the integrity of the game…and more importantly preserve franchise monetary values

There are tons of rules in all pro leagues that are designed to save owners from themselves.

For some reason i thought it was when the nets traded an assload of assets for an old Pierce and Garrett but yea i remember that now

Still, teams should be allowed to fail due to their own stupidity

Then there should be a method to be able to remove said owners that fail to that degree.

Im all for having rules that protect the league and i get it. But not being able to trade consecutive picks doesnt sit well with me.

Maybe alter it and say no more than 3 years in a row or something.

I love it!

No one is going to bail out the lakers. Klutch has really developed quite the reputation, lol.

Toni apparently did some kind of interview claiming that he isn’t injury prone then throwing a hissy fit over people calling him out for missing games then, when he comes back, he gets injured again and called out more.

RealGM pointed out, BTW, that the old narrative was that Dwayne Wade missed too many games next to LeBron. Wade missed like 20 games less than AD has in the same spot, except Wade did it in four seasons and AD did it in three seasons, two of which were shortened.

Would be pretty hilarious if Lebron went to Golden State.

Dray effectively ran off Durant for off court stuff he felt detracted from the team (Should I stay or should I go? routine).

LeBron would be crying like a bitch within a week.

Reminder that you can root against the Lakers again tonight as they play the Warriors.

A Lakers loss tonight would eliminate any possibility of them being in #9 draft slot going into the lottery -- they would be in the #8 slot.

They only way that the Lakers could still end up in the #7 slot is if the Apocalypse is upon us and the Kings somehow beat the Suns and Clippers to end the season, the Lakers lose all three of their remaining games, and then the Lakers win the #7 slot in a coin flip before the lottery.

Suns have locked up top record in the league and have nothing to play for.

Clips? Possibly something to play for.

Lakers? LeBron has shut it down and Toni is a shell of himself.

Possible but not Apocalypse level stuff.

The Suns and Clippers backups are still way better than the Kings backups. The Kings are desperate to lose and absolutely will not accept their draft slot dropping from #7 to #8.

So, yeah, I stand by the "Apocalypse" comment.

The rumor du jour is that the Charlotte Hornets are very interested in trading for Westbrook.

If MJ bails out Lebron and the Lakers, I will puke.

Not ideal but it would have to bring back Gordon Hayward, and he has an additional year on his deal which could hamstring the Lakers for 1 more year than Russ given Hayward injury history.

LeBron, Davis, and Westbrook are all out tonight. I guess LeBron realized that getting the scoring title would just lead to more mockery (because it would).

Probably but could just be sitting the harder game of a back to back.
