Russillo said on the latest BS podcast that there's already rumblings of a major writer writing a piece for Lebron to say that he wasn't really that into adding Westbrook like is being claimed.
Russillo said someone reached out to him to get his feel for that narrative, and he wasn't having it
Yeah that's not going to take well. Hollinger has an article tonight in The Athletic about the difficult road ahead for the Lakers. It's behind a paywall so only a few selected parts here:
quote:
Put simply, the 2021-22 Lakers were a paper tiger, a hollowed-out facsimile of the team that dominated the 2020 Bubble. I think it’s easy for people to look at the bold-type names and blame the injuries and the Westbrook trade. LeBron has missed 22 games and Davis has missed 39, and certainly, that hasn’t helped, but the Lakers were not the only team to have an injury this year. (I mean, look at Denver.) The problems went much, much deeper.
quote:
The knee-jerk “blame the injuries” analysis glosses over how fraudulent the Lakers’ full-strength roster was as any kind of contender to do anything of consequence. Yes, James and Davis only played 22 games together … but the Lakers went 11-11 in those games and were outscored this year with the two on the court together.
quote:
The Lakers have been outscored this year with James on the court … and with Davis on the court … and with Russell Westbrook on the court. They have been outscored with James and Davis playing together, and when James plays without Davis, and when Davis plays without James. They’ve been outscored with James and Davis playing with Westbrook, and with James and Davis playing without Westbrook. Tell me the scenario, and the Lakers were beaten in it.
quote:
Amazingly, every single Laker not named James or Davis had a negative BPM this past season. The Lakers gave over 3,500 minutes to players with single-digit PERs, including 1,388 to Avery Bradley (7.9); throughout the second half of the season leaned heavily on other teams’ discards (Stanley Johnson, D.J. Augustin, Wenyen Gabriel, Bradley) because their own offseason went so badly.
quote:
Regardless of which option the Lakers choose, it’s going to be a massive challenge for their beleaguered front office to cobble together even a halfway decent supporting cast around their two tentpole stars. They failed miserably in that challenge in the summer of 2021, and don’t appear positioned to fare much better this time around. Thus, the worst part of the Lakers’ 2021-22 season is not the current misery, it’s the lack of any reason for optimism that 2022-23 will be much different.

Yeah but Lebron's media shills are pretty shameless. When Vogel gets fired they lump it into his post mortems.

They will try but people aren’t really buying it at this point.
LeBron constantly made the playoffs and the finals with the Heat and Cavs. He’s been in LA for 4 seasons and missed the playoffs badly in two of them.
Yes, he’s aging and has gotten hurt, but a lot of the problems are that LeGM fricking sucks at picking complementary players and instead wants his buddies or guys who are signed with his agency.

The Lebron narrative is slowly growing that he wins by means of killing teams.
He left Cleveland after 2010 after the Cavs traded their 2010 1st for Antwan Jamison. Lebron left, the Cavs stunk and won the 2011 draft lottery, picked 4th in 2012, and 1st in 2013.
The Heat traded picks for Lebron, including two first rounders. He left Miami after 2014, and the heat immediately stunk and had the 10th pick in 2015. No draft pick in 2016 because of the Lebron trade years earlier.
Lebron next burned Cleveland and left them after 2018. The Cavs then won 19 games and I think had the 8th pick, then the 5th, 4th, and 3rd picks.
I'm honestly surprised he wasn't signing one year contracts with the Lakers like he did elsewhere. It's gotta be eating him up inside that he can't wait Bolt this offseason.

Given that stars are forcing their way out on multi year deals, LeBron should be able to force his way out on an expiring.
Problem is that no one is going to want that pay what the Lakers want nor will they want to gut their roster to rent LeGM.

The problem is LeBron doesn't want to leave LA. He considers himself a mogul and the move to LA was all about his brand.

that, and i would bet that most teams would not trade for him, outside of probably the Knicks, and maybe Portland right now to try to win one with Lilard. No one else is giving up their chemistry and roster to get him for a year or two.

Hard to grow your brand when one of the bigger (fairweather) fan bases in the country blames you for ruining their team… before jumping onto the next major bandwagon team.

Unless some shite market like Sacramento drafts Bronny, I can't see LeBron going to a small market for any reason. His options, realistically, would be one of the teams below (Top 6 TV markets). You can eliminate the Clippers, unless they blow it up. I could see him trying superteam 2.0 with the Nets, Bulls, Sixers or Warriors. I still think its stay with Lakers or go to the Knicks.
1. Knicks
2. Nets
3. Clippers
4. Bulls
5. Sixers
6. Mavericks
7. Warriors
8. Hawks

Philly just got rid of one full tilt diva and got another. They ain’t going for the hat trick.

The Knicks trading away their future for a 37 year old Lebron would be the most on-brand move they could possibly do.

he’s gonna 1+1 with the lakers
nobody else wants him

Also, in regards to the media hype machine getting ready to put out an article stating Lebron wasn't that involved in bringing in Westbrook, I just found this gem of a quote from Lebron in the offseason:
quote:
James to the media: “It was exciting helping put this team together this summer. Understanding what I felt and we all felt was going to make us a title-contending team. … I watch enough basketball to know what I need to do to help the ball club depending on the acquisitions we make per year. So I’m very cerebral about what I need to do for our team to be as great as we can be and to be the counterpart to what Russ brings to the table. … I always figure it out.”

These days it is hard to memory-hole shite like that.
Hence why LeBron’s tweet about “keep doubting us” was so fricking stupid. It wouldn’t have helped him much if it came true but it is hugely embarrassing now that the team has failed.

Vogel about to get fired.
Fischer:
Fischer:
quote:
Facing elimination tonight, the Lakers are still expected to part ways with coach Frank Vogel at season’s end. Two names most often linked by league figures as potential replacements currently coach other teams: Quin Snyder and Doc Rivers.

Doc Rivers would be a perfect fit: overrated coach being exposed leading an overrated big and twilight Lebron. We'd have a top 5 pick swap next season!
Quin Snyder would an absolute idiot for taking that job.

snyder is heir apparent at SAS
doc and morey just swung a franchise altering trade
lakers (rich paul) are delusional

The only reason why I could see Snyder taking it is the Jazz may be on the verge of blowing it up, and while the Lakers are in the same position...he might be able to finagle a HUGE contract from LAL.
