Traveling Wilburys had five. Not sure whether to leave out Tom Petty or Roy Orbison.

songwriting talent, vocal talent, instrumental talent, showmanship

Angelina Jordan Astar (Norway, now in L.A.) - vocals and writing, will be recognized as the greatest vocal talent of this century, plays keyboards, guitar, violin and flute

Leonid Vorobyev (Siberia, now in Moscow) - composing and showmanship, backup vocals and bass guitar, currently the best musical arranger and audio guru in the world

Sina Doering (Germany, now at a conservatory in The Netherlands) - instrumental talent and composing, backup vocals, in one of her original songs she plays twelve different instruments very well, but percussionist extraordinaire

Andrei Cerbu (Romania) - instrumental talent and showmanship, guitars and keyboards (Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix somehow bred a child)

I would love to have seen the legendary Miles Davis / Jimi Hendrix project come to fruition. Jimi wanted Paul McCartney to be part of it.

Jimi Hendrix - guitar
Miles Davis - trumpet, keys/electronics
Paul McCartney - bass, vocals, piano
Tony Williams - drums

I'll change it up a bit without the big names already mentioned--

Dan Fogelberg
--(vocals and every instrument known to man). Exquisite songwriter, arranger, and vocalist.

Jeff Beck--can span genres with any style of music.

Bill Bruford--drums. Rock, jazz, classical--doesn't matter. Does it all expertly.

Gregg Allman--keyboards, vocals. Add some blues/rock and a rough edge. Wrote most of the classic early ABB stuff.

Almost put Bowie in for Allman, but can't lose either way (unless Gregg goes on a binge...)

Many combos I like have been mentioned already so let me throw this odd progressive foursome out there:

Jeff Beck - Guitars
Buddy Rich - Percussion
Chris Squire - Bass
Burton Cummings - Vocal and keyboards.

I always start typing out lists like then until I realize that supergroups are usually not equal to the sum of their parts. Most of the guys you want to list are used to having nearly unlimited control and input. Putting 4 of those guys in the room is going to result in "too many cooks in the kitchen."

Hence, why it is hard to keep great bands together with the large egos and large amounts of money. I just think my 4 would put out some good music..

Just from watching a lot of documentaries and interviews, writing credits were often the cause. I got the impression that a lot of young group members never gave that a second thought until it was too late, and Mr. Band Leader was making way more money than them.
