I was in a gas station today waiting to pay, and the piped in music was playing "Bad Medicine" by Bon Jovi
The clerk was bobbing her head just noticeably to the beat and mouthing the lyrics as she counted the change of the customer in front of me in line
Whoa ah oh,
Shake it up
It's like baaadddd medicine
Bad medicine is what I need

What about “Jack and Diane” by John Mellencamp. First, it’s overplayed on classic rock stations and second,
Suckin’ on chili dogs,
Outside the Tastee Freeze.
Who the heck does that?

Some love it. I have it.
I don’t know why.

Shirley you're not serious with this choice. That's a good song.
One huge bro country hit that was definitely terrible: "Brand New Girlfriend" by Steve Holy. Just incredibly bad, but somehow country & western fans found it appealing.

I think of that one as a novelty song. Springsteen wrote it and was undoubtedly strung out on acid or mushrooms at the time of its composition.

John Cougar (1979-1981): good rock 'n roll artist.
John "Cougar" Mellencamp (1981-82): transitioning
John Mellencamp (1982-present) mostly terrible songs with political overtones. One exception is "Lonely Ol' Night" which I liked. I think the dividing line in his career was "Jack And Diane." I remember when it was popular I thought it was an engaging novelty record at first, but I grew to really hate it after about the 999th time I heard it. And they still play that abomination on oldies stations nowadays.
I remember listening to John Mellencamp a few years ago on an NPR interview segment. The moderator asked him what he thought about Occupy Wall Street. Mellencamp, who was apparently stoned out of his mind, kept mouthing "I liked the movement" without explaining why. It was like some eerie incantation.

Not calling names...
(nor only the one above)
... but if it's the worst song ever how can you list more than one?
I'll nominate - Tiptoe Through The Tulips - and if you've never heard it don't.

That song is great simply because of He-Man's cover.

It changes over time. Any of those three at a given moment, which is usually when I am hearing it.

if you do the song Chuck berry punk style and just plow through the lyrics, it works pretty well.

My vote goes to the 1982 classic "I've Never Been To Me".

We were just playing in my basement and didn't record it, but it was just mostly a fast shuffle in A major, Tuned down a whole step. 1-4-1-4-1-5-4-1. I liked the way it worked but we didn't spend much time on it.
