I don't know if our student govt put this together, or if they were actually touring together, but I remember going to a free show with the Sugarcubes, Godfathers, and Living Colour in the late 80's. No one had heard of Living Colour yet (not for another couple of months), but they pretty much stole the show, so much that by the time the Sugarcubes hit the stage, most everyone in the crowd had bolted. Definitely a musical mismatch...

I'll bet that was one of those 120 Minutes college tours.

The "oddest" concert (lineup wise) I ever attended was:
Opening - Iron Maiden (1st US tour - Number of the Beast)
2nd Act - Point Blank
Headliner - 38 Special (pretty hot at the time)

Great show though

I saw After the Fire (Der Komissar) open for Van Halen. Bizarre.
van halen has had a tendency to have some odd openers. they took bachman turner overdrive out with them on the 5150 tour.
nothing will ever be as out of place as them taking kool and the gang out though.

I saw Kool and the Gang open for Cheap Trick 2 years ago the night before the New Orleans Bowl. Free show. I loved Cheap Trick growing up, but KATG put on a better show.

I remember that tour. Living Colour was gaining traction by then because Cult of Personality was already a hit on MTV. I Liked the Godfathers too but never got into the Sugar Cubes.

Snoop and RHCP is an odd one. I didn't go, but would have liked to.

You should have. It was dope. As in you couldn't see the stage through all the weed smoke.

God I miss college...

REM & KRS-One "Radio Song"

When did it become cool to hate on "Radio Song"? I can't keep up with the Music Board. I'll respectfully disagree and say "Radio Song" is fricking awesome.

That came through Shreveport, but they had Aldo Nova instead of Point Blank. June 18, 1982.

I saw one of the Marley's open for Van Halen too. Weird.

But went to Nine Inch Nails open for David Bowie.
Still the weirdest show ever.
The place emptied out when Bowie hit the stage.
I tried to give him a chance but he was terrible. I know he is a legend but it was bad.......especially with empty seats everywhere.

I personally saw Falco (Der Kommissar) open up for Van Halen. Circa 1986.

Very weird.

Edit: It was After the Fire not Falco, and someone beat me to it.

Maybe a little known fact: tragically falco was nailed by a semi truck while on his motorcycle 20 some odd yrs ago in a s. American country. Was in his mid 30s I think.

I would have loved to see that tour. Too bad it didn't come anywhere close to Louisiana. Plus, I think I was unemployed at the time.
Maybe you saw Bowie on an off night, but there's a pretty direct line from the records he made in the late 70/early 80s to Nine Inch Nails. Kind of a father-to-son type thing. Shoot, that was right around the time that he made an album that sounded like a Nine Inch Nails record.

Certainly not worst, in hind site odd. Bob Seger and the SBB opened for Kiss in 1976. Seger was phenomenal.
