He has a unique voice and also mixes up his albums between a jazz feel and blues western feel. And he dresses like a bad arse.

Popularity is a very tricky thing. I listened to him for the first time the other night, that song- Welcome To Hard Times. Really liked his voice, the song is really good, but I think he should have done it much faster. That's just my opinion. I love the old country sound, but to really catch fire these days, I think you need to really work on upbeat sounding stuff first.
He may have some stuff like that, if he does, would you mind linking it? I would like to give it a listen.

That's not a recipe for popular success. I used to go see him play around Dallas a few years ago when he lived here. I like some of his stuff but he can be pretty boring too.

Those are all great, I really like all of those, but it's not exactly what I'm talking about. Big Gold Mine, is close, but it still has that hint of sad to it. He needs to find a couple of pure good time songs, without a sad thought in them. Songs that just put a smile on your face when you hear them.
He may be fine with where he's at. He's doing some good videos, so he must be making money, and that's all some people want. They don't really want to be huge stars, just do their thing and enjoy it.
I really like his sound, and will be listening more for sure.

I had this conversation with a buddy this past weekend. His western sound with the blues influence is super unique. We saw him early this year and he puts on a hell of a show and sounds way better live. After the show, he came out in the crowd and hung out for a little while. I plug him a good bit, so hopefully people catch on.

We first discovered him as the opener for Turnpike at the varsity back in 2016. Been following him ever since. He’s very original and unique. Has a cool style and is super artistic as well.

This goes back a ways but to me this sounds like it's straight out of "western swing" from Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys territory.

Texas Monthly has a couple of good articles about him.

Charlie tells his story in this one: Two Trailblazing Country Musicians From San Benito Led Parallel Lives Decades Apart

Interview with him. Charley Crockett Wrote Songs About Hard Times in America. Then 2020 Happened.

I’ve seen him twice. In shreveport at Municipal and the Saenger in New Orleans. Absolutely awesome shows. He and his band are incredibly talented. If you get a chance to see him don’t miss it.

He has a ridiculous underdog chip on his shoulder about his career and is a flaming lib cosplay cowboy who has turned off quite a few fans and critics.
