Why Do You Love Neil Young?

He’s a high tenored, quirky, raspy, surreal, deep thinking Canuck bastard and he captured the heart of America in the 70s. And he’s still putting out great material.
I love that Canadian son of a bitch.
What’s your favorite Neil album?

Ragged Glory
Rust Never Sleeps is also pretty damn strong. That’s got the perfect balance of both sides of the man: the great acoustic folk tunes and the primitive garage rock.

I’ve kind of lost track - not only is he still prolific, but his archives are cranking out albums too. But Psychedelic Pill was really good and “Help Me Lose My Mind” off of Colorado is a great tune.

Not really a great big fan of his, but he has a couple of songs that are downright fire.

That sums it up pretty well. It took me a long time to come around to Neil Young but eventually it was impossible not to. The range from Harvest Moon to Powderfinger is impressive and he's a top tier songwriter (Heart of Gold, Needle and the Damage Done, After the Goldrush, Old Man...) that is uncompromising. Still, I don't listen to him in large doses; but he's absolutely one of the best.
Favorite album - Rust Never Sleeps
Powderfinger - favorite song.

everybody knows this is nowhere
one of the greatest rock albums ever made and a huge influence on the music from the day it was released continuing on until today
Neil young is authentic. You get what you see and what you get is the most diverse body of work by a single artist in music history

He’s very, very authentic. Nothing phony about him. He’s written some great, iconic songs.

Harvest will always resonate deeply with me. I was a senior in college when I first heard it(2002, so not like it was around the time it came out), but it was my last semester and I was just either constantly in class/studying or working with not much social time and I think I was actually depressed for the first time in my life.
I listened to it straight through for the first time and I don't know what it was, but I just connected to it on a very deep level. I wore that CD out for probably 3 months. Every time I listen to it, it brings back really intense memories from that short time in my life.
Outside of that, I'd probably have to say either On The Beach or After The Gold Rush.

His screed against Joe Rogan and Spotify boycott really turned me off. I never thought a hippy from the '60s would turn into a cancel culture, pro-censorship scared old man. He didn't even own the songs that were taken off spotify. Really pathetic way to end his career. He'll die soon and his songs will be placed back on spotify and he will always get that *censorship asterisk, but most won't know or care. Screw him and Joni Mitchell.

I'll take Live Rust and Weld over any of his studio albums.
