I enjoy music, I am interested in the artists. But I cannot think of any that I'll "grieve" for. I save my grief for people who mean something to me.

quote:I understand what you mean, but for me, music is just so up close and personal. These songs over the years feel like old friends to me - and their creators, something more than just a man or woman who happened to put them out. A world without any living Beatles is a world worth grieving.
But I cannot think of any that I'll "grieve" for. I save my grief for people who mean something to me.

I won't grieve but it will feel like there's a hole that can't be filled.
It's McCartney for me. Even if Ringo outlives him, once McCartney goes it will feel like the Beatles are gone forever; but, more than most, their legend will grow once they're all gone as future generations marvel at the greatest catalog in history completed in less than a decade.
The other for me is George Strait, but he looks great and it should hopefully be a while. Dolly Parton's death will sadden a lot of people too.

I'll be bummed when Mark Knopfler and Richard Thompson pass.

I would honestly be sad if Ian Astbury passed away.
quote:
Feeling sad when a musician you admire dies is completely normal and can be attributed to a few factors: a personal connection to their music, the loss of a creative voice, the sense of a cultural landmark passing away, and the potential for triggering personal memories associated with their songs; essentially, it's a form of grief even if you never personally knew the artist, as their music can become deeply intertwined with your life experiences.

Yep. Chris Cornell hit me hard, but I just got wasted and watched live performances on YouTube until I blacked out.
