Oh I got one. David Draiman. Disturbed.

That band is poo without that dude’s vocals and lyrical imagery.

Smashing Pumpkins would probably be up there. Amazing drummer, but Corgan was apparently a perfectionist who wrote and played nearly everything minus the drums on their Siamese Dream album which was one of the biggest and best selling albums of the 90s. He didn't have a great voice, but it was distinct and he was the creative force behind their success.

Def Top 3 but #1 would be Lynyrd Skynyrd...Ronnie definitely ran that band

You can say Disturbed would be entirely different and would be correct. Draiman is one of the most unique voices in rock and lends himself to a certain type of writing and quality.

However, Donegan and Wengren are very good musicians and write quality stuff. Their talents would be welcome in other bands. "Carried" is a bit strong.

I thought maybe that was it, but I looked to see only one album by the Crickets, and two solo, so wasn't sure.

I think the same could be said for Traffic.

Also:

The Police
The Eurythmics
The Four Seasons
The Mamas and Papas

And I may get downvoted for this but where is Led Zepelin without Robert Plant ?

Ehhh... He was obviously the dominant one but he didn't write all the songs solo and the band seemed to have a persona -- blending rock, jazz, and folk -- even w/o his vocals

I don't even know who you're referring to -- John Phillips or Mama Cass? That right there should refute your argument.

I know one thing: w/o Plant I might listen to them occasionally

Any band Ronnie James DIo was in, except Sabbath and Rainbow, though Dio was never in the shadows.

Mike Campbell's guitar and songwriting contributions were a pretty strong component to their success. He is a top 100 guitarist and has played with several other big acts.
