I'm going a little back and forth on this one because the entire band was tight as hell but I also think Peter Wolf is by far the most underrated front man in rock and roll history--J. Geils Band.

This is actually one of the best examples, almost on the Steve Winwood/Spencer Davis Group level

I think Michael Jackson qualifies, even if it was a “boy band”.

The Jackson 4 wouldn’t even win a Gary, Indiana talent show without him.

Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie. I couldn't name another person in that band. He had a hot sister who was a backup singer in the band who had Mark Farner's baby.

Hard to argue with some of these, but one less famous (and further back) than many mentioned is Mark Boland.
