Where does Superunknown rank among the 90s grunge albums?

How does it compare to:
Nirvana - Nevermind
Pearl Jam - Ten
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Stone Temple Pilots - Core or Purple
... It may be at the top for me. All great albums. Tough.

All equally good in their own way. That was a special time for music.

Personally, I prefer Badmotorfinger.

I must be the only one that liked grunge but did not like Nirvana. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam (early on), AIC, STP I all thought were great.

top two along with Dirt

Like a lot of musical classifications, grudge is a pretty vague and ambiguous label.

Beat me to it. That CD was standard issue for any guy in the 90's who was into Seattle music. Ten, Nevermind, Badmotorfinger, Dirt. If you were really cool you were SubPop guy. Lol

It definitely hangs up there at the top

Am I the only one that hates the term grunge?

I agree with. I don't hate nirvana but they are my least favorite of those bands. Id never choose to listen to them like the others

As others have said, Badmotorfinger > Superunknown. It's akin to REM Life's Rich Pageant > Green.
Nirvana is generally the weak link here, but were most popular at the time - which also leads to anti-conformity.
I'd rank them this way from your list on personal preference:
Pearl Jam - Ten
AIC - Dirt
STP - Core
Nirvana - Nevermind
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

My personal taste in music was formed during the mid-80s and early 90s. Listening at the time to "underground" REM, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Cure, learning about Joy Division, Sex Pistols, joined old-school rap Public Enemy, NWA and compounded with Grunge and predecessors - PJ, The Pixies, AIC, Nirvana, etc.

Nirvana gets underrated because they are the most famous. Nevermind is easily the landmark album and epitome of the entire movement.
That said, Temple of the Dog was pretty sick.

All subject to what you personally like, but of what you listed, I'd go in this order:
Dirt
Nevermind
Superunknown
Ten
Purple
As someone else said, Badmotorfinger is every bit as good of an album as Superunknown.
Other albums from this genre should include In Utero and Facelift.
Down on the Upside was a disappointment, but did provide a few good singles.

I always loved how Superunknown started with the kick arse drums in "Let Me Drown." Badmotorfinger and Superunknown were was a strong combo. I think Badmotorfinger might've even better showcased what they did best.

Yeah, Nirvana got really overplayed once they blew up, but that was a freaking awesome CD. Basically every song was really good and the musicianship was really good.
Ten was right there with it. Ten was a little more versatile with the slower stuff on it.
Smashing Pumpkins were from a different area and weirdly different, but Siamese Dream was one of the best too from that era of music.
