I believe David Lee Roth sums it up quite nicely in this "Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody (1985)" video. Cheesy video, lip syncing, lampooning 80s artists, killer vocals, etc.

YouTube Music Video

Side question; did anyone have a better 80s than David Lee Roth?

Music decade rankings (popular mainstream music only)

1. 1970s
2. 1960s
3. 2000s
4. 1990s
5. 1980s
6. 2010s

This is completely undebatable. 80s popular music sucks fricking arse. Hair bands, awful one hit wonders, and the worst pop songs imaginable outside of MJ and Prince. As a whole, there was far more talent in the 2000-2010 era of popular music then there was in the 1980-1989.

The good
Michael Jackson
Prince
Billy Joel
Dire Straits
Rush
AC/DC (although very hollow)
Queen

Tolerable
Phil Collins
The Police
Hall & Oates

Total shite
Madonna
U2
Springsteen
Van Halen
Guns & Roses
Def Leppard
Wham
Bon Jovi
REM
Duran Duran
Motley Crue
John Mellencamp
Bryan Adams
The Cars
Aerosmith

So much shitty music going around. 90% of it was catchy singles trying to make a buck

You rank the 70s as #1, yet hate the 80s?

What of the 70sdid you love so much that the 80s didn't have? Disco? The Carpenters?

I have never seen a steamier pile of shite opinions, and I just read something about people and their preferred pronouns.

diddlydawg7 has most likely given us one of the worst posts ever in the short history of the Music Board. It took a lot of guts to bring us so much fail. And I bet he is Falcons fan too.

You are a musical moron. Congratulations on making the dumbest statement about music that I've ever read.

Completely undebatable, eh? Your musical taste sucks arse. That's what's completely undebatable.

Lololololololol

Try Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Steely Dan, Grateful Dead, and the Doobie Brothers.

Y’all are all blinded by nostalgia. I didn’t grow up during the 70s or 80s, so it would be one thing if I told you all old music sucked, because that would just make me like a lot of young people.

Anyone who didn’t grow up during the 70s or 80s who enjoys classic rock can tell you the same thing. That the 70s are far superior. The lyrics in 70s music are unmatched. The lyrics in 80s music are hollow and boring. Good for nothing outside party music. The bands I listed above made great cohesive albums. Most 80s bands made shitty albums with a few catchy songs to make them a few bucks.

Blinded by nostalgia? You think that the music from 2000-2010 is superior to the 80s. That's fricking insane.

It shouldn't matter. There was more good music in any one year of the early 80s than there was in the entire decade between 2000 and 2010. Music in the 21st century is pure shite in every genre.

Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody

Covers of two songs written in the early part of the century, from 1929 and 1915, respectively. And all videos were lip synced. I can’t think of any that were recorded live but if there were any then they were the exception, not the rule. Also, that video is gruesomely bad. It’s no Thriller. And I’ve never been a Michael Jackson fan per se but that was an iconic video and a major production with much, much better choreography, special effects, and worldwide acclaim.

I think it’s fair to say that Prince had a much better 80’s than David Lee Roth did. David’s best years were when he was with Van Halen. And David went downhill fast after he went solo. Van Hagar sucked but at least they were viable for a little while even if totally forgettable. At least they always had Eddie (RIP).

I'd say you're the one blinded by nostalgic classic rock stations geared toward white middle class men. Go back and actually see what was popular music in the 70's or find your iheartradio's Adult Contemporary station that all those office women listen to to find what was popular then and let me know. Maybe The Eagles actually had a #1 hit on your list. And then again, it is The Eagles.

I noticed how you didn't list all those Barbara Streisand, Captain and Tenille, Debbie Boone, Donna Summer, Barry Manilow, Tony Orlando, Andy Gibb type hits.

You cherry picked a genre and applied it to the decade. If I loved classic blues country music, tell me that the 1930's aren't the best decade even though crappy swing show tunes were more popular.

That has been the formula for the music biz from the get-go. I like 70's Kiss but tell me some of those great Kiss albums of the 70's didn't have some fillers with hollow and boring lyrics.

Most of these were more successful in the 80’s than in the 70’s.
