I mean, there was a ton of crossover between 70's and 80's, why do you have them so far apart?

Lyrics to Black Dog are pure rap trash.
Put that to a “beat” and anti-rap crowd would be all over it.

Most of these were more successful in the 80’s than in the 70’s.

Wait, what?

- Eagles broke up in 1980

- LZ broke up in 1980

- The Who only released two albums in the 80s and they both were pretty bad.

- Allman Brothers broke up in 1982

- The Rolling Stones had eight #1 albums in a row. 6 of them came in the 70s and 2 in the 80’s.

- Literally all 4 of Pink Floyd’s 4 best albums came out in the 70s and Roger Waters left in 1985

- Tusk, Rumours, and Fleetwood Mac are Fleetwood Mac’s 3 best albums and they all came out in the 70s. The only decent album they had in the 80s was Tango in the Night

- The vast majority of Chicago’s hits came in the 70s. Their guitarist shot himself in 77 or something so they completely changed their sound

- Steely Dan broke up in 1981

- I’ll give you the Grateful Dead. All their best music came in the 70s but their popularity was highest in the 80s

- The Doobie Brothers broke up in 82

So in conclusion, you’re a moron.

Haha!
Coming from you that’s quite a statement.
And like water off a duck’s back since you are deluded and bitter.

These are serious music people. You expect them to appreciate DLR?

Watching 8-girl synchronized swimming at the Olympics I can’t help but think that there should be a team all with bright red lipstick and choreographed to Robert Palmer tunes.

This is completely undebatable. 80s popular music sucks fricking arse. Hair bands, awful one hit wonders, and the worst pop songs imaginable outside of MJ and Prince. As a whole, there was far more talent in the 2000-2010 era of popular music then there was in the 1980-1989.

This is the worst musical take I've ever read or heard in my life, and I heard my then 16 year old brother say that My Chemical Romance was more important than anything from the 70's.

Most people have humility and are embarrassed by their ignorance. You, however, proudly broadcast and wallow in your ignorance and shitty taste. Congrats I guess.

I'll back you on the 80s being overrated, and not nearly as good as the 70s.

There was still a ton of good stuff in the 80s, though, and music became so much more accessible with innovations in radio, TV, tape players, and CDs. However, the synth movement, the MTV effect (video killed the radio star), the feminization of rock, and the rise of rap/hip-hop really devalued the overall quality of music in the 80s to me.

I'd put the 20's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70s above the 80s. 91-95 was great, and a refreshing break from the crap that the 80s had turned into, but it didn't last long or become influential enough to outrank the 80s overall.

The 80s were far superior to anything since the year 2000, though.

This is worthy of a permaban IMO.

Congrats on nobody taking your music opinions seriously anymore.

You were close, but screwed one of them up royaly.

It's:

1. 1970s
2. 1960s
3. 1980s
4. 1990s
5. 2000s
6. 2010s

I agree with him. The 80’s were such a garbage decade for music. Heck, even the few decent songs were ruined by gated reverb.

REM is absurdly overrated and only on this board. I really don’t understand how REM is worshipped here and barely cared about anywhere else.

Def Leppard is garbage, pure straight garbage.

Aerosmith was a great band…in the 70’s.

I’ll give you GNR. Appetite for Destruction is probably the best album of the decade.

Yeah. If your musical tastes run towards pop punk and crap like My Chemical Romance, you probably won't like the 80s.

New Wave was enough to make the 80s a good decade for music, by itself. But there was so much more to the decade than that. Pop, Rap, R&B, Rock, New Wave, and I'm guessing that even country music had something for pretty much everyone.

Unlike today, where the cookie cutter, straight off the assembly line writing, producing, and recording of the last couple of decades is music made for the LCD.
