For a long time I never knew that Gladys Knight & the Pips did Heard It Through the Grapevine before Marvin Gaye.
LINK

Cyndi Lauper's All Through the Night was written and originally recorded by Jules Shear.

I was never into Fleetwood Mac so I didn't realize until about a year ago that "Landslide" wasn't a Smashing Pumpkins original.

Other than the noisy recording, the Corgan version is better in my opinion. But then I'm not a big Fleetwood Mac fan either.

Whaaa? Not sure how you can call either of those songs covers.

Garth recorded the demo of Friends, just after he signed with Capitol records (it was the last demo he ever recorded), but loved it so much he told the songwriters he wanted to record it. Mark Chesnutt recorded a version that was on his Too Cold at Home album, but that album came out a few months after Garth's No Fences.

Girls was written by (and recorded as a demo) by Robert Hazard. But outside of his demo recording in 1979, no one had ever recorded/released the song before Cyndi Lauper did.

Just because the songs were recorded as demos, you can't call them "covers."

Living Colour had recorded and played 'Memories Can't Wait' live before bassist Muzz Skillings realized it was a cover of a Talking Heads song.
